how much would you budget for petrol on a 460 mile trip at normal motorway speeds on an SV650 sport pointy?

I used to reckon about 10p a mile, so 46 quid.

3 tanks with change.

even on a pointy?

I'd say about £32 with a gentle wrist action....65mpg is dead easy on a fully clothed pointy at 70mph!
£35 if you have a head wind to contend with.

is this real like I was thinking more like £60

Even on mine, and it's got a drinking problem :smt003 Motorway mileage is usually (1) very economic, it's stop-go-accelerate that uses the most fuel.

(1) Except when familiarising yourself with the vehicle on the M6 with 300 miles to cover and your tent and topbox on the back. That's quite uneconomic, it turns out.

I worked on a high petrol price of 98.9p/litre.
460 miles @ 65mpg = 7.07 gallons which is 32.09 litres

Thats 32 x 98.9 = £31.65p

Even if you only did 55mpg you would only use 37.97litres and at 98.9 per litre would only cost you = £37.55p

If you can fill up at only 93.9p/litre then phew....you do the math! :)

No more than £42 if it's mostly motorway speeds/clear road. It'll go up if there's lots of stop-start stuff or low speeds like around town.

I did 480 miles Portsmouth to Kilmarnock, it took 4 refills of fuel from when the fuel light came on so at todays prices that would be about £44 at normal prices. Add a couple of quid for motorway prices.

Depends on what speed you usually travel on the motorways ;)

Not useful, I'll move along, although I used to use 12.5 - 13 l sitting around 100 mph on the autobahns for 105-115 miles a go. I think.

I'd say definately no more than 45 squids. And that's filling up at expensivo pumps init

Spend the extra, take your time and go via the twisties.

I get about 150 miles from around £13 of petrol, so I'd guess you'd be fine with £40. (Those miles are combination between fast A road, Motorway and city riding)

Haha, I can go along with this. Today I was getting 115 miles to a tankful before the light came on. I know SVs ain't that brilliant on fuel, but I can better that if I stopped trying out the R6 tube conversion.

hehe. Was sitting at around 130 :) (really long runway ;) ) for about 40 minutes. It's a thirsty motor!

I've been reading up about catalytic converters....interesting subject....I want to know who stands to gain from us all being "forced" to have them?!In the USA if you tamper with it or take it off you can be jailed!!

If you thrash your engine a bit the innards of the cat 'can' melt and cause a blockage which can and does lead to increased fuel consumption. Its a bit complicated but have a look at this....at least you'll learn how one works.

Tis fascinating stuff! :)

Just thought I'd mention it cos some of you are getting seriously shyte fuel figures! Except the runway boy 130?? tut tut !:smt003

There's only one thing I have to say to that :rave: on! :)

Sorry forgot the link! :)
