View Full Version : AR08 - Where do you want to go, Vote Here

OK peeps its voting time.

We've had four excellent suggestions for a base for next years festivities, thanks to everybody that’s been kind enough to put some thought into this and come up with a suggestion.

Option 1 - Gettin2Dizzy / WRC63 - The North East Knock About

Campground here (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=dl13+5je&ie=UTF8&ll=53.357109,-2.427979&spn=4.66265,10.217285&z=7&iwloc=addr&om=1) with a route covering safe country roads suitable for all levels of experience via

A68 to Riding Mill
Riding Mill to Hexham (Cafe/Fuel Stop)
Hexham to Whitfield
Whitfield to Alston
Alston to Hartside Top Cafe (Lunch Stop - covers the safe, less challenging side of Hartside - also presents an opportunity for the hooners to blat down the other side before rejoining if they eat quickly)
Return to Alston
Alston to Stanhope via stunning Weardale, through Ireshopeburn, Westgate, Eastgate
Stanhope to Barnard Castle via Eggleston
Barnard Castle to campground via Staindrop, Burnt Houses, Butterknowle

Should be about 120m with tweaks.

Option 2 - Vipers Somerset Spectacular

A weekend camping on our farm in somerset. This is my idea........

We have a 400 acre farm in Bruton / Wincaton area in Somerset. We also have a Farm shop etc.
We would be able to offer FREE camping for all attending. We would also be prepared to put up toilets and showers and a marquee, in which we would be able to offer hot food and drinks on site, such as a Hog Roast, Tea, Coffee, Burgers, Hot Dogs, Jacket spuds and for breakfast Sausage, egg, bacon, toast etc.

The plan is tio try and keep everybody together "on site" as much as possible. AR07 was fantastic but i reckon if we had hot food on site we could have stayed on site and got to know each other more.
Fizz and myself have spoken about routes for rideouts and we have some fantastic roads around here that i am sure would suit all abilities.

I thought we could all Pre Book and charge a fixed fee for the weekend to include all food. I reckon £30 (ish) per person all in should cover it. For this we could provide Friday Evening Meal, Saturday Brekkie, Saturday Night meal and Sunday Morning Brekkie so thats 4 meals and camping all for £30 ish each. Though this will depend on confirmed numbers and payment will be required up front on booking your spot.

Option 3 -Viney's South Wales Extravaganza

Okiedokie

I have a route (approx 120 miles, with lunch and fuel stops)
I have a campsite (Located in Hay on Wye)
Its in South Wales

Simple as really.

Option 4 - Xan173, Invasion of the Valleys

Xan was kind enough to offer this up as well, it’s a repeat of the Invasion of the Valleys weekend he successfully ran this year. More details here

http://invasionofthevalleys.blogspot.com/ (http://invasionofthevalleys.blogspot.com/)

So vote for where you'd like next years AR08 to be, The poll will stay open until the end of September so that’s two months for everybody to vote on where they'd like to go and then it'll be locked. Once the location is sorted and we've got agreement for the people who have proposd that they can indeed host the weekend then the date will be up for the vote as well. The date poll will run for a further two months, this means that the final location and date will be annouced on the 1st December*. Which should hopefully give everybody enough notice to sort out travel arrangements and book time off work.

*the final result might not be the venue / date with the most votes, if for logistical / organisational reasons another venue / date is deemed to be more suitable.

Could only vote one way really as I'm 99% sure I'm already on group rideouts in the other 3 areas next year - though it'll be typical I can't make the chosen date anyway:rolleyes:

My perfectly innocent and genuine query is...Why vote then?

Personally I voted because I get a little rush from the democratic process and because I figure thems as is doing all the hard work need all the support we can give them.

But just imagine if logistical/organisational reasons mean disappointing 78.57% of the people...

I doubt we'll have to use it and I really hope that we dont. Its not for any sinister reason or to try and change the location or anything like that.

I dont want to end up with the rideout location sorted and then the local people pull out and then be left with having to reccie a route and sort out a campsite in an unfamiliar area. If that happens I'd rather just move it to an area where there are people who can help out organising etc. Its just a get out clause so we can fall back to a different location should we need to.

Vipers one for me.A little bit closer to home than the others don't really like the idea of a days ride just to get to start point. This one would also give a chance to riders nearer to participate whereas they might not of. Perhaps the area of the AR should be rotated round the country each year to include as many new people on the events as possible?.
I'm guessing the suggested price is per person?.

Just a query is there any point in a poll with this proviso in the first post?

*the final result might not be the venue / date with the most votes, if for logistical / organisational reasons another venue / date is deemed to be more suitable

If we choose the Somerset Farm, Viper can post pictures of our hog growing up. How's that for knowing where your food comes from.

yes.......... but it may be a bit more than the suggested £30(depending on how many commit to booking)but as said this will include camping & food.

the toilets & showers will have to be rented @ £500 a piece so to keep the cost down we could just have to toilets.

i will be doing a poll (as im the poll master) to see if people want to pay the extra for showers or not.(once the desternation is comfermed)

Can we keep it? Can we? Can we?

I think we need a 'Choose your hog' poll. Viper selects a few likely specimens, the .Org decides on the candidate for sacrifice, and we collectively adopt it, name it, watch it grow happy and healthy, and then ultimately... eat it.

I suggest a suggestion is made ASAP. After all as well as raising the hog, Viper has to erect the fence, sort the drainage, rest the fields, book the stages, put up the fence, arrange the security and book the entertainment :p

I'm thinking this may just end up being at Vipers place...

Viper, have you got any veggie hogs we can slaughter?

(I think I was the only veggie at ar07, so I can happily get stuff for meself)

Now to look for roads in the area...
