View Full Version : Fuel light warning
Im getting the fuel light coming on at around 110miles. Today it was on at 110 and I ran it upto 154miles and then put 15 litres in. Does this sound normal or does the light seem to be coming on too early? Im a little concerned that the float (i presume its a float system) has somehow changed in its action.
The fuel sensor is non adjustable. On the early models there were 2 level sensors, the light would then either flash or run solid depending on how low the fuel had got.
Over the model life of the SV, suzuki seem to have been less than consistant with their fuel sensor setup. IIRC for one year the light does not have 2 "stages" meaning you get one warning for longer.

Mine just flashes once it has used 13 litres. Assuming the tank is 17 litres that does seem pretty early

I get a solid light (stage 1) at around 13 liters used and then at about 15-16 liters used I get a flashing light (stage 2)
I have K4

Jambo is correct, only the K3's didn't have the flashing light stage. Just a solid light as soon as you hit reserve (About 12.5-13 Litres)
Are you filling up while the bike is on the sidestand or sitting on the bike and squeezing as much fuel as you can in? Can make a difference.
I'd guess that if your light came on at 110 you were pretty close to running out :p

my k6 flashes first. Not sure if the solid light comes on though as I'll fill up before then :)

Sounds about right for me - I normally get the light on at 120-124 without fail (although I have managed shy of 100 with "spirited" riding :D)...
An interesting thing, however... I tried changing to a Castrol oil (canny remember which one from the top of my head) and the range suddenly shot up to 140 every time...NOt sure if anyone else has found that....
Ok getting back on track, 115/120 miles sounds about right - I seem to average 10miles/litre, doing a 70 mile motorway/twisty daily commute (works out approx 40+mpg)

I got 85 miles this weekend before the light came on :( but I got my record of 140 miles the tank before :)

K6 - Fuel light starts to flash when you're down to 4L, Goes to solid light at 3L (according to the manual, and seems about right from experience)
One word of warning... if you're down to the solid light and have been on it for a good while, be careful when banking round bends as once I've had the fuel start to cut out mid-corner as the petrol shifted to the side, only to be fine again as I got upright again.
(Luckily the petrol station was 5 miles away) ;)

I have a 650S K3 and mine comes on around 130-140 miles depending on how it's been ridden. You don't get a flashing light on the K3 so if I fill up soon after the light comes on the most I can squeeze in with the bike upright is about 13litres, so it does seem to come on pretty early imho.

I'm on a k3S, and the light comes on at around 100 miles (previous owner played with it slightly), that's about 11 - 12 litres to the brim. I take it that mine comes on slightly earlier than it was designed to.....
