My own fault hands up I can't deny it. I was speeding.....Silly boy!

In the early hours of a certain day last week I was coming home from work and as there was nothing on the road I decided to plod along at a slightly faster rate of knots than usual. Still doing all the usual mirror checks and good general obs as you do when you comute in London.

Mirror check 1 mile from home and the blue flashing lights meant only one thing. Busted, bang to rights, get ready for a bo33ocking.

I got off my bike, removed the lid and politely said "good evening"
The very pleasant but sturn officer then lectured me on why I shouldn't be doing ??mph in a 30 zone. He sent me on my way with a clearer outlook.

Fair enough I thought and fair play to the officer for being leaniant under the circumstances. I could have lost my licence on the spot no question about that. He asked me if I would prefer using public transport and I think that question alone is a massive deterant to doing silly speeds on a bike and risking it all for the sake of getting home a little quicker.

Pulled into line and I think I needed it! :silent:

Seems we're getting some good feedback about the old bill recently.

Very late at night and empty roads can lead one into temptation....

Phew, lucky one there. Maybe it's only me but the only speed limits I tend to view as 'fair game' for a bit of fun are national speed limits. All the others I stick to, partly due to believing there might be some reason for them, partly due to expecting less leniency if caught there than anywhere else.

Nice copper though, sounds like good old fashioned police work/attitude there :thumright:

I think the ol' bill tend to be a bit more lenient late at night. i got pulled in my car for doing 70 in a 40 a long time ago, but it was right out in the middle of nowhere at 3am. The copper just told me to take it easy, breathalysed me (I hadn't been drinking, nor do I ever) and sent me on my way.

It is sooo tempting to wind it up when you see clear road and everyone's in bed. As the copper said to me though, it only takes one drunk idiot to step out into the road and you're up for death by dangerous...
