I'll be coming over the severn bridge with my dad weekend and wondered if anyone could recommend some good roads from there.

Appreciate any advice!

Just avoid the m40, not too bike friendly ;)

Old severn bridge (chepstow, but not into town) then wye valley to monmouth (stopping at tintern), or turn off to usk just before chepstow racecourse after suzuki dealer, through to usk, then on to abergavenny. From there the road to Builth is nice if not busy.

Or go to Monmouth then back down to Raglan and then back road to Abergavenny then on north to Builth or over to Lladovery way.

The A4061 Hirwaun to Bridgend, can be good fun, and always a challenging journey. If you go towards Abergavenny from Monmouth/Raglan take the old road not the boring A40.

Would that be the b4223? Is that a good road then?

No. It's got no number on my autoroute, named Clytha Road then the B4598. It runs parallel to the dualled A40. The B4233 is a little further north and has more single lane sections.

I've been looking at going to rhayader (elan valley) what would be the best route from bristol to there. Don't really want to use the a40 if it's biker boring so twisty roads all the way their would be good! (if possible)

Any good options?

;)

What's you plan mate? Would you like an escort (NO NOT A CAR)

I'm sure someone would be able to help out if you wanted mate, Mofo's or the Taffia

I've got a decent route for you, PM your email address I can sent you a PDF of it. There's a bit of A40 but not much, its sort of difficult to avoid completely.

Easy. Old severn bridge, Usk turning by chepstow races, usk, abergavenny, talgarth, builth wells, rhayader, left in town cross to Elan. take your pic of all the roads signed to reservoirs and if weather nice go over the mountain road to Aberystwyth.
