Controversial topic of the day:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/cambridgeshire/6943734.stm

Man warned of £80 fine if he continues to wear t-shirt with "Don't **** me off, I'm running out of places to hide the bodies" slogan :D

Thing is, I'm not sure whether this is "political correctness gone mad, instigated by liberal left wing weenies", or "right wing draconian authoritarianism gone mad". Either way, I thought it was funny :D

That's Peterborough for you.

If you're not having a fight on a Friday night down Broadway- they fine you.

You also get fined for not using your full 'retail park hours' quota.

Street warden ? is that one of the community support people then ?

sounds like someone who's just been taught in a class room the "fine letter of the Law", but lacks any real world experiance, to me.

Cheers Mark.

My mate Dan's a huge UK Subs fan, and he got the same line when he was in Brighton- "Someone's complained about the language on your shirt, you'll have to take it off". So he did, displaying the massive "PUNK AS F**K" tattoo that runs across his shoulders  "Wot? You want me to take me skin orf as well? Hur hur hur"

Personally, speaking as a parent, I think there is a right time and place for clothing with swear words and such. In the middle of the day walking down the high street is not one of them.

i find them childish and completely devoid of humour.

which is ironic cos it sums me up nicely

whoda thunk it.

It's hardly offensive language - listen to Radio One at the moment, Six weeks of Summer with their life's a beach and life's a b***h thing that they are running.
The word 'p**s' is used by them as well..........

Certain words I readily accept as offensive ( Michael Portillo for example), but that one? No, I can't - it's just a word........

Fair enough, and I'm not a parent so I don't have these things to consider but it does remind of a bit of Bill Bailey's stand up:

“I don’t know anything about Afghanistan, but I know it’s full of terrorists, speaking as a mother.” So what is this "speaking as a mother" then? Is it a euphemism for "well, talking out of my ****"? "Suspending rational thought for a moment"? As a rational human being, Al-Qaeda are a loose association of fundamentalist zealots who could be rounded up with a sustained police investigation. But speaking as a parent, they’re all eight foot tall, they’ve got lasers under their moustaches, a huge eye in their foreheads and the only way to kill them is to nuke every country that hasn’t sent us a Christmas card in the the last 20 years. Speaking as a mother…

Hehe, just made me laugh when I heard it ;)

I think this story shows more about how far we have allowed authoritarian culture to establish itself over the last decade or so.We have always had jobsworths, but now it seems the State officially backs them up.

Nah, don't think that stands up, we've had people being harassed for obscene tshirts for as long as there's been obscene tshirts, but they're pretty recent themselves after all. If 16th century nonconformists had worn "PURITAN AS F***" tabards I imagine they'd have been hassled by the watch.

Yes I should have said re-establish.No one doubts that things were pretty authoritarian in the 16th century, but the rise of democracy brought about a similar rise in liberal values over most of the 20th century.I believe that this trend has been firmly in reverse over the last two decades.

That was just an off the cuff example, you can find people being harassed by the police for no good reason in any period of history. I was just amused by "PURITAN AS ****". I nearly went with textile workers with home-spun shirts with "LUDDITE AS ****", or Emily Davison wearing a "SUFFRAGETTE AS ****" dress as she jumped under a horse :smt003

Still not 100% sure what the offensive part is supposed to be - is it the word beginning in "P" and ending in "S"? Or is it the inference that the wearer murders people on a daily basis and shows no respect for Teh Rule O' Law?

If it's the "P" word, I suspect all the wearer need do is point the "street warden" (one up from Milk Monitor?) to the nearest **** billboard - there's generally one in every town and if I was the kind of person to get upset by such things (I'm not really bothered it has to be said) I can imagine getting more distressed by the afore mentioned high street shop name than the "P" word.

EDIT: Chuckle, the afore mentioned shop name offends the swear filter, thus proving my point nicely :D For clarification, it's the clothing shop which begins in "FC" and ends "UK"

Used to have a T shirt with "The Runt" on the back, have been asked to cover it a couple of times. Asked what the problem was and they said the word was offensive. To which i ve always replied "thats what i'm called and I dont find it offensive so would you rather it started with C," have always backed off then.

The father ought to have been arrested and an assault charge thrown at him for showing his son that violence is the way.

Brilliant website... have been subscribed for ages - but never bought from them yet...
I REALLY want the 'I've had it up to here with Midgets' - with the low line :p

If they thought that T-shirt was bad on that bloke, they should have seen some of the ones from the site when they had the 'Worse than Hell' section, eg: 'I Surfed Tsunami 2004'!
