View Full Version : Disc loose on carrier

The front disc on my bike is a bit loose on the carrier, and there's some movement forwards & backwards plus a smidgin side to side. Now I'm aware that discs are supposed to be 'floating' to some extent, but this seems to be a bit too much!
I took it to a Suzuki dealer on Saturday and was told it was just wear and was nothing to worry about. However I've never had this problem in 10 years of bikes with disc brakes, and the other front one is absolutely fine. And since I'm the one riding the thing I thought i'd play it safe and check with you knowledgeable types as well...
cheers!
Ahh Ness, don't you remember, you sold your SV, wrong section I think ;)
Anyway, I'd be inclined to say, that if the dealer said it's OK, just wear, then it should be OK, noticed anything different under braking?
You are going to be putting more miles on your bike than the average Gixer rider too :D How many are you up to now?

Ness, unless it's very quick onset or of great extent, it's fine and won't cause a problem ( some of the triumphs I've had have it and some don't).
However if you're worried, let me know and I'll have a look at some point, you can buy replacement bobbins to carry the disc, but they are a little expensive or a pain to fit, there are two types, either removeable ones (sort of like a clip thing holds them in) or pressed ones (which need a special tool to fit) which are done by a specialist.
Cheers Mark.
Moved for you ;) .

thanks, that's good to know!
it has come on over a period of time - it's just taken me this long to figure out what the clunking noise was!
brakes feel a bit snatchy at low speed, but tbh it's just a bit annoying more than anything so i'll stick it out til i can get a replacement disc off ebay (saw one pretty cheap the other day & sounds like it will be less hassle than the bobbin replacement route!)
