I've noticed these smallish hi-tech looking tubular camera popping up on roads on my commute to/from London. There's some on Blackheath Hill (about half way up) and by the sliproad going onto the A2 at Blackheath. It's kinda hard to describe what they look like, they're about the size/shape of a half used roll of kitchen towels, silver in colour and theres about 4 mounted in a line on each tower. I thought they might be used for getting people crossing solid white lines but that doesn't explain the ones on the A2....
Anyone know what these are?

It's either another of Ken's follies or spooks doing ANPR. Paranoid? Me?

Yeah after some research it looks like they are ANPR camera's, apparently Mayor Ken is "seeing if they work" before possibly epanding the congestion charge zone... Also by an amazing coincidence the camera infrastructure COULD be used if the toll tax thing comes in...
Hmmmm, 12" petrol angle grinder should do it :)

I was going to ask about those too... they've appeared above the A4 going in and out of London near to Hammersmith.
They are very simular to the congestion camears. They will used when the Low emission zone is set up in the next year or so.

They have 2 sets in Croydon on Purley Way up by where Bowaters used to be, Front facing (so still safe) pointing sown both ways.
Didnt have time to work out where the other set were, didnt seeanything between there and HG.
