ok other thread was derailed by myself..
so
last weekend i covered nearly 900 miles from door to door-
stoke to Holyhead - ferry - ireland- all around it and then home- all in 4 days.
was ace- recommend it to anyone..
weather was poor fri and sat but good sun and monday
ok-
setting her up and making sure i have everything at home the night before - she was sooo soo clean- what a difference a few miles makes ,, she is no filthy- and minus a mirror- (story later)
decided to travel light- and ended up looking like i was goin for a week..wish i had the nerve to take 2 t shirts and my credit card and buy what i need and chuck it away- I will one day - i didnt make the mistake this time of using panniers- loading them up in the gardn then not bein able to get down the side passage with my bike - ha ha yea yea soo funny !!
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b326/sigourneysbeaver/ireland2007002.jpg
met half of our group of eight bikes 12 people at a local garage. with thoughts of good roads, good fun and beer and scenery in my mind
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b326/sigourneysbeaver/ireland2007006.jpg
on to the ferry - first time i been on a ferry with the bike.. e had to tie don our on bikes. luckily I use ratchet straps at work but its weird when it clamps don on the seat of your nice clean bike.. on way home they did it for us..
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b326/sigourneysbeaver/ireland2007016.jpg
Jason decided to plan ahead- and he had his shorts on under his leathers,, but no trainers- so kept his boots on.!!... nb- none of us ere required to stay in the kennels.
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b326/sigourneysbeaver/ireland2007013-1.jpg
its ace on a bike on the ferry isnt it- frst on first off. real quick and easy- gave me lots of confience to do it again..
3.5 hour crossin on way over-
swift home an hour and three quarters.
soon off the ferry and some ace scenery
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b326/sigourneysbeaver/ireland2007034.jpg
the vibration on the ferry loosened my bikers clock TEN F IN QUIDS WORTH ...and on the way off the ferry it slipped don behind my screen and then onto the flor and i ran over it !!.... i as annoyed but it made me laugh cos reminded me of plowsie runnin over his own foot.
we did dublin to alway then down to limerick and tipperary (its a long way)..then to blarney to kiss the stone- like I need it !! ...then over to waterford on the east route back to dublin and wexford and then dublin and home.. sounds easy- man its a long way..but some onderful scenery-
tried to find the coast roads and not use the N roads all the time.. although the N roads ere ice too- 100KM/H limit though and we stuck to that rigidly.. of course!

there was me, an R6, a kwak Versys- a transalp, a pink triple, an ace orange ninja 6 , rossi rep honda, and a suzi 1200 i think..
it as poring down and we were a bit wet so decided stay in Dublin- got a shock off the ferry as we had to pas through the Toll.. not realising that you dont pay at it for bikes-- (there are a lot of Tolls in ireland and we paid for many- only about 50p)
so- e found a B and B and then headed over to Galay and down to Limerick and Tipperary on the saturday- THAT was a long long day,,
Galway and Dublin are big and not the ireland we had come to see- if i go again will go south from Dublin and to wexford and waterford etc and do it that way - but we were soon in lovely irish countryside.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b326/sigourneysbeaver/ireland2007084.jpg
after that long ride my bike was now filthy-
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b326/sigourneysbeaver/ireland2007070.jpg
made it to tipperary .....as a lil dissapointed - it as a little scary-but it was saturday night and all the youths were out- re visited it the next day and was nicer-.. stayed a few miles outside of it.. in a quaint irish pub.. lovely
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b326/sigourneysbeaver/ireland2007076.jpg
this was the pub.. reccommed it to anyone i have the number- it was a flat- 2 double rooms toilet and kitchen-ace, !and only £20 with brekky

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b326/sigourneysbeaver/ireland2007071.jpg

had a wonderful meal and 2 pints.. was looking forward to that beer all day-
went up at 7pm for an hour before coming don for the irish band- at 9pm.
was the plan!.. woke up at 7am the next day !!.. dam !!.. sat night in ireland and i missed it.!
had this to wake me up though ,, mmmmmmmmmmmmm

ok wonderful stuff everwhere- it was a big big hurling game- quarter finals of something similar to the FA cup so there was greenand wite and blue and white flags everywhere-
we were on waterford area who were blue and white- and who lost as it happenned- but- everyone was on about this big hurling competition..
nice scenery a horse in a field..
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b326/sigourneysbeaver/ireland2007063.jpg
NOPE--
the horses ere in the middle of the town right opposite the pub;; like a western- just tied up-
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b326/sigourneysbeaver/ireland2007064.jpg
so off up into the hills and some ace views and lochs

went in to a brash and bright shop that was dedicated to limerick and gifts and had an ace laugh with the bloke - real irish banter-
asked if he had maps..
"yes over in the map department"
any postcard- next to the map department
enquired re good roads- told us a route and drew a map on paper -
up to the hills you can see for miles and miles.. johnny cash wrote his songs up there he said- i think he had kissed he blarney stone meself
i said if these roads are rubbish we ill be back to see you-
quick as a flash he said. aha- then you will be wanting the complaints department - thats in Delhi.
we bid him farewell and off we went and sure enough the hills were ace, awesome bends and some very very scary hairpins
- the road signs in ireland are ace- very well signed of dangers and chevrons are really bright- i was impressed.
the drivers are really courteous too all moved over-and we only saw 2 coppers (garda) all week..

a long ride don to Limerick and through the city to get to the small and cute village of Blarney and the castle- so i could kiss the Blarney stone and rid myself of my shyness..
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b326/sigourneysbeaver/ireland2007107.jpg
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b326/sigourneysbeaver/ireland2007144.jpg
its a real real high climb up- narrow narrow stone stairs -
some wag had tampered with the direction signs
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b326/sigourneysbeaver/ireland2007142.jpg
3 brides to cross to get to the castle and each one ad become a wishing bridge the river bed was glowing with the copper colour of cents as folks wishes lay under theater glistening like gold.. really bright..
i wondered if the golden ones were wishes that had come true...... there was many a dream on that river bed.
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b326/sigourneysbeaver/ireland2007105.jpg
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b326/sigourneysbeaver/ireland2007106.jpg
from the top of the castle tower those one and 2 cent pieces really did glow like a leprechauns pot of gold, it was lovely.
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b326/sigourneysbeaver/ireland2007166.jpg
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b326/sigourneysbeaver/ireland2007163.jpg
and so on to kiss the blarney stone...
i am sure many of you have been-but you have to lie don on your back-lean over held by a chap.. who i think had eaten the stone he was so funny and chatty and then lower yourself don over a 150 foot drop and kiss the stone.. quite an ordeal. - for a fat lad !!
but i needed the gift of the gab- so i did it.

Hope you didn't catch anything from rubbing your lips on that mingin' bit of rock that thousands of people slobber all over year after year with God knows what ailments dribbling from their pie holes!
(just kidding, you DO need it, wot wiv you beein' so shy and retirin' like!)
I cant put any of mine up now Quiff - they're pretty much the same as yours! :o

Ape- yea I wish we cud have not had to race around so much- couple of extra days would have made it a lot easier.

so- onwards we go and the adventure continues--
we were planning on stopping in warterford but it would have been a real long rip up to Dublin the next day .. so decided to press on and ehad for wexford a little higher up the coast - brilliant coastal roads and we had to ride hard to make it-- got to wexford around 9pm!! and here is the journey below..

Dont forget us next time. Coast roads are awesome

raced through some country lanes and got lost a couple of times.. ..
had to ask a local. well i assumed he was local- I approached him- kind of an A typical irishman tweed and wellies and carrying a local paper with a dog on a lead- so local.. asked him the way to Wexford across the east passage and with a wry smile and not stopping walking he said in a broad irish accent-
"i dont know I am from cambodia"
laughing he walked off.. the cheeky sod!
made me giggle.. lovely sense of humour the irish
however- most of the garage attendants and bar staff were Polish !.. whats new eh?
eventualy we found the east passage- stopped for a few pics on the way - came down a hill expecting a bridge across the small cove- and big big smile when we saw a dinky cute ferry...
it wa slike a normandy landing craft- big front drop drawbridge- quid each and sit on the bike and 10 mins- we were across and on our way .. brilliant fun

ace that ferry trip was..a real highlight as it wasnt expected-
tbh I was quite tired at that moment and it really lifted my spirits for the ride to wexford after..

so off the4 ferry and away--
some very very sharp hairpins after that ferry on the run to wexford- but I must say the irish signs and chevrons are brilliant-- reminded me of australia as they are on a diamond sign- guess what..!!??..>> no pics of them awww..
we rode on and my seat was actually comfy- not a gel one but not the original one - it is comfier than the orig one so I was not aching only in the base of the back..
as we rode along i thought my mirror needed adjusting on the right side- so leant forward and pulled it- AND IT CAME OFF IN MY HAND ! lol.. was scary-
so there I was mirror in right hand - rolling the throttle with my palm trying to hold bike up and undo my zip on jacket to put the mirror in- meanwhile others are bombing off in front of me.. finally got zip open - all this at well at a high speed- limit is 100KMPH ... so thats what i was doing of course- !:smt021
rolled throttle and then coasted as i popped broken mirror in my jacket front.. good job I am thin so it fitted..
then I laughed............................ was mad !
I was annoyed but the whole scene was comedic beyond belief..
I think I had tightened up the camera ram mount too tight on the monkey metal and it had fractured it- you live and learn..
so rest of the journey just with a left mirror- scary stuff-
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b326/sigourneysbeaver/irelandtrip2007209.jpg
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b326/sigourneysbeaver/irelandtrip2007249.jpg
it was getting dark as we came into wexford- and was worried if would find anywhere- .. saw a sign for a hotel. didnt like the look of al the B and B's and was prepared to pay a bit extra for bike security and a nice hot bath
Quiff Wichard
18-08-07, 02:39 PM
so - tired- filthy and in need of a rest approached the reception of a lovely hotel..
we were in luck they had been having an open day and lots of rooms had been laid out for potential wedding parties and guests to view- so we could have those cheap.. how cheap?? 60 euros !.... £40 for these rooms- brilliant- and even better when we got in them- I had a jacuzzi bath- .
20 mins prior i was on the bike worried if we would find somewhere- crying for a bath- and then there I am up to my chins in bubbles and drinking a beer in a jacuzzi bath ... giggling my sad old head off not believing my luck..
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b326/sigourneysbeaver/irelandtrip2007259.jpg

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b326/sigourneysbeaver/irelandtrip2007236.jpg
quick beer something to eat and then bed and the tv- - was so so tired- but a happy and contended tired- knowing that we had "broke its back" and Dublin was within striking distance tommorrow..
so an easy restful sleep- early up in the morning and drifted off with memories of good roads, good laughs and rainbows , the sea and thatched cottages in my head. and a smile on my face
Quiff Wichard
18-08-07, 02:48 PM
up early the next morning- and in to the lovely breakfast room-
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b326/sigourneysbeaver/irelandtrip2007263.jpg
ace view at breakfast of Wexford- i often think of this view when I am drinkin my brew and havin my toast at 5am before work these days
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b326/sigourneysbeaver/irelandtrip2007261.jpg
I wasnt too hungry so just asked if I could have scrambled egg on a piece of toast and a bit of bacon... .. nice n simple...
I think Gordon Ramsey must have been doing the breakfast shift.!!
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b326/sigourneysbeaver/irelandtrip2007262.jpg
then it was pack the bike.. and away to Dublin for the trip home.. and tbh I was ready for home by now and some creature comforts one takes for granted- ..
I think it was the fast pace and the frustration of only ten minutes here and there - like Ape says 2 extra days would have been ideal- more expensive but better-- it was a bit of a "race" .. and at night it was akin to going ski-ing- too knackered to enjoy the evening like one should- ie: beer and beer

Well done Dave ... really got a feel of your adventure , I nearly got there last year...rode all the way to hollyhead from Devon and when we got to the ferry port my mate decided he might not like going on a ferry :smt021! I nearly went on my own & wish I had now..but we just turned round and rode the 280 miles back home !!!

20 mins prior i was on the bike worried if we would find somewhere- crying for a bath- and then there I am up to my chins in bubbles and drinking a beer in a jacuzzi bath ... giggling my sad old head off not believing my luck..
Glad you don't take pictures of everything! [-X

Ha ha. Yeah. Ireland is pretty posh now alright. We are giving you Brits a run for your money.
Although... we always rocked the breakfasts fairly hard.
Glad to hear that you enjoyed the aul sod.
