View Full Version : Triumph daytona on Ebay - Bargain ? or iffy ?
Just seen a 2004 triumph daytona on Ebay with 2000 miles on clock in yellow in a classified ad for £1600, emailed the seller asking why so cheap and he replied' need the money quick, might be a bargain for some brave soul there..or possibly not. Item no. 330156284996. Its based in manchester with 27 days left to run.
p.s sorry for no link direct to auction, crap at these things
needs money quick, but 27 days left to run? i did not know you could advertise that long

hmmmm, no feedback either. NOT recomended. but then again, you never know, he may well be genuine. if you advertise something on ebay as a classified ad, its just really advertising, like autotrader.
would be a good buy though.
also, tax is about to run out! http://www.vehiclelicence.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/application;JSESSIONID_EvlPortalApp=GDFnWTQ1Qqv8m4 QYyLQJX4Lsc2rL021D3M9nj6f4ZShM5S462b36!1061465171!-2033523362?pageid=Vehicle+Enquiry&portletid=VehicleEnquiry&portletns=VehicleEnquiry_en&wfevent=link.next
Nah, cant be right somehow, its just too cheap, havin a look round there are crash repairables dearer than that

Stewie, it's definitely iffy! Check the photos of the bike in the auction, specifially the one showing the left-hand side of the bike, then look in the background - photo taken outside a dealer called Bulldog Triumph in Twyford, which is nowhere near Manchester!
I looked up their website (http://www.bulldogtriumph.com/) and lo-and-behold, the same bike is listed for sale in their used bikes (click on the 'used sales' link, 2nd advert down on the page that loads) - same details, same photos, vastly different price & location.
I wouldn't touch it with someone else's bargepole!!
EDIT: posted at same time as pmapp - seems he found a direct link to the ad I'm talking about!

I was going to say....surely the shop in the background is selling it....and yes they are :p
Anyone e-mailed them to tell them that this is going on?
Thought it was too good to be true :D

Hmmm, I've been checking up on this as well, was about to post the Manchester/Twyford inconsistency.
Having said this, what exactly do you reckon is the scam then? Particularly seeing as there is a photo of a Triumph clock with 2865 miles on it. Is he selling a similar bike with an altered mileage? Will nick the dealer's bike to order?
Any ideas?

Reported the listing to eBay, let's see if I get any response...
Dunno, but summing is certainly fishy.

Nah, probably just a scam to get the money from an unwitting buyer, seems to be a common occurrence on ebay these days. The 'seller' is probably not even in the UK.

Well that sort of simple scam I can understand. 'Send the money to Western Union' sort of thing and then they run off with the money. Just confuses me a bit that there is a piccy of a triumph clock with the correct mileage, a photo that the dealer doesn't have :-k
Well I emailed the seller too, cause I'm very interested in that if it's for real :-)
Will see what he says

It's also listed on Auto Trader, photo of the clock is on that listing (link) (http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/bikes_search.asp?nU=0&make=TRIUMPH&model=DAYTONA&ccappr=600&min_pr=75&postcode=rg10%209eu&miles=40&max_records=200&modelexact=1&photo=1) - 2nd ad from the bottom...

Me too, asking for:
1. Photos of *his* specific bike, seeing as he obviously has the camera to take the clock photo.
2. Registration number, VIN, V5 issue date and serial no. (the info for an HPI check)
3. Landline number to contact him on. What's the bet he'll only give a mobile number.
Excellent cyber-sleuthing there folks :)
So should I go for it or not ? ;)

also noticed with the tuono, it says he has a private plate on the bike, well why hasnt the picture got the private plate on it?? bit of hassle to swap plates over just for a picture, just cover it with a cloth or edit it on the computer.
So should I go for it or not ? ;)
It is one of those that does seem too good to be true kinda things.
I ain't got a reply back from the seller or ebay yet.
I guess it could be genuine, but really do doubt it.
(And I'll sulk lots and lots if it is for real and I don't buy it ..... lol )
Specially as the name kind of reads "robber do you know"......

Send him £1600 in Monopoly money for a laugh
Just looking at your 955i in your avatar, so that's about 10 of the "exclusive" SE models that I know of. Time to sell mine and buy something a little more "exclusive" then.

You know, it looks like a Daytona 955i SE in that pic. I'd sell it mate, and buy something that looks nicer than a shonky old Brit bike.

it looks identical to my pa's 650 but then again the 600 and 650 look identical so.... lol,
The clocks look like mine on the 955i.(but I dont know what the clocks on the d600/650 look like) The ad has been pulled by e-bay as well.
Got a reply back.............

Hmm, I'm convinced!
Could always ask the dealer...
"Scuse me, I assume you're selling the Daytona on behalf of someone cos I saw the same bike listed on ebay - can I have it for the £1600 he asked for in his ebay ad instead of the £4k+ that you have it listed at?"

"Good afternoon madam....i am calling from your bank. First i must ask you a security question....what is the day?
I need your sort code and bank account details as you have won a cash prize."
Surely its genuine.........
I rang the dealers at Twyford yesterday afternoon to let them know some one was using there pics on Ebay, I spoke to a sales manager I think and he seemed genuinely surprised and said he would check it out, thing is Im not normally one for 'grassing up' but the guy was obviously a crook cos I got a similar message saying he needed the cash, was the owner etc..just dont want to have some poor biker getting ripped off or worse turning up with cash and getting mugged or something
