View Full Version : Old Bonny
At last!! Located the only known pic of my Triumph. Was taken at the lakes when out with my old mate on his CX around 1980. We'd driven down from Rosyth for the weekend.
All I can recall of my machine is that it had a 650 gearbox with a 750 Morgo arrangement bolted above. It had a Dresda tank, I think I got the handlebars from some bike shop in Dunfermeline, off something like a BSA. I believe it may have been an 'oil in frame' type. Anyway...here she is...

Ah happy days.:D
Have owned both those bikes from new.
Your Bonnie looks like a 71K-73M model with the conical front brake, and oil in the frame, which was a clever idea except, that rumour had it, that the swarf from the maching wasn't cleaned out of the frame with dire consequences. Mine seized at 1600 miles!:smt088
At least my CX lasted a lot longer.:p

:D Great aren't they;) But really, they felt right at the time, on that bike - the open face helmet, sunglasses and flies in my teeth. 21yrs old and invincible.
The irony is that I may have to resort to something similarly shaped in the near future because of my knackered neck:eye:. So, it's back to uprights !!:smt042
Bonnie on the left, Honda on the right.
Hope u dont mind Stingo, took the liberty of tweeking it a little. ;)

I think it was a dreadful idea, (actually, most Umberslade Hall ideas were dreadful), it turned a nicely balanced machine into a monster with a high seat.
It probably went bang 'cos it was crap, (like mine), all 70's Triumphs were badly made rubbish.
Whats that 750 morgo stuff you're talking about? What does it do?Tuning parts - Morgo = more+go :D
Agreed Sid. At the time of purchasing this beast, I was blinded by the 'must have a British bike' bug and this one just happened along. Got rid of my nice 500/4 to finance it:rolleyes:.
I think, allow me to rephrase, I KNOW that I left several parts of it around the borders region (nice road from Rosyth to Berwick upon Tweed) including an exhaust can (sfunny, bike sounds a bit different:mrgreen:!!), two number plates and the back light, and one of them caps that allows access to the tappets, LHS - my left leg was jolly oily I can tell you!!
But it was the cudos I tell you. People really did stop to chat and point etc (not because it looked like sh!te either)...even the old bill took a keen interest!! Must've pulled me four times just for a chat:smt045, no really!! I kiddest thee not!!

Have you tired the DL650 V-Strom, same engine as the SV, I rode my Dad's up the Lakes for two days, and going round the twistys once I got used to it it was bloody fantastic, no knee down stuff but you didn't need to...
Honestly hand on heart, I liked it.
ps had a race with a zx6r going up and over hardknott pass, when he cought up he was well impressed with it's handleing, and made my head swell. (Shussh ,...don't tell my dad...)
