On my way to the bike meet tonight and had an oops on the bike :(
Going round one of those stupid mini roundabouts (going straight on), and managed to drop the bike, was doing between 10 and 15 MPH. Bike hit the curb and i landed on my left knee. I'm fine, if a little disapointed in myself mainly... guess i thought after 2 years i was passed the falling off stage, silly i know but its how i feel and pi$$ed off that a stupid 15mph spill has done so much damage!!!
Had chance to calm down and look over what happened and it was a combination of factors... 1, Wet greasy road, 2, freshly painted roundabout (painted a week to 2 weeks previously) 3, fresh tyres, only had 100 miles or so on them and hadn't worn in the edges of the tyres yet. I basically went round the roundabout instead of straight over it like most cars do, and must have clipped the outer edge of the paint as i have white paint on my tyre, flicked the bike to the right to avoid the oposite kerb, and the front just slide out from under me and the bike hit the kerb.
Damage to the bike... cracked front fairing, bent right hand side fork, possible bent front spindle, possible bent front subframe, scuffed rear (seat) plastics, scuffed front mud guard, broken front break lever, broken rhs foot peg and rear break lever, snapped rhs mirror. Forks are also twisted in the yokes, and also got a new dent in the tank :( oh well glad i didn't put the new tank on there Bike is also doing something weird... it will roll forwards but will not roll back :confused: but Adam said he'll have a look tomorrow and strip bits to get it moving so we can roll it back off the van.
Will have a proper look over the bike in the light of day, once i have also sleep and calmed down. I thought i'd be more upset about it, i really love my bike, but since i have been contemplating getting something else, i guess my feelings about it all have changed, the only real thing keeping me attached to my bike is the sentimental value, of the freedom she gave me and gives me :) and without her i would not have the friends i have now and the main thing.... i wouldn't have met James.
Luckily Rictus came to rescue me and get the bike rideable so we could get to the pub where we meet and have a look over it and get coffee. James ended up riding my bike to the pub and i rode his. Then Adam picked me up in the van (drove up from Guildford to Croydon and back again) to drop me off home.
The most annoying thing is that i am thinking what if i did that or what if that hadn't been like that.. but its always easy to look back. But at least i was able to walk away, although my knee may have other plans in the morning :(
I just want to say a huge thank you to Rictus for your help getting it "rideable", To Law for stopping and standing with me until James and Mark arrived, just having someone there to stop me from getting worked up and just someone i can talk to really helpped. Dirty Dog, thank you so much for coming to get me, you're a true star. And James... i'm sorry if i'm a grumpy cow for the next couple of days :( And to all of you sorry i am rambling on, i just need to get it out of my system.
Thank You
Sammy :flower:

Ouch, glad you're ok..
I've had 2 near misses in the past week myself, one was where they put some new shell grip down or whatever it is called but no signs up.. Oh and it was on a roundabout entrance... Tucked the bike in and then had a moment where the front end slid out, me foot went down and managed to stay up, knee's a bit sore from the impact but I'm still upright
And the other day was round a junction, not fast, barley any lean but the bike slipped out as I went over the yellow grid on the junction but only enough to make my R's twitch a bit then it was fine
WOOHOOOO, lucky eh....

In the cold light of day.... my shoulder hurts like hell and may have hurt my shoulder blade area again! (just recovered from that and a broken rib when i went flying in the garden 6 weeks ago), my right wrist aches and the bone which connects your hand to your wrist on the left side when you hold your palm out hurts and is bruised (don't know what its called). Back aches and neck and my knee is just as painful as it was last night http://www.icebaymals.co.uk/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif.
I haven't seen the bike yet today as Adam still has it in the van. Oh well we lives and learns. Thanks for the replies guys :)
Ah Sammy, sorry to hear about your off. Maybe it's an idea to get yourself down the hospital and get checked out?

Really sorry to hear about that...keep your chin up, it's all part of the learning curve I guess. Hopefully your knee will be ok and you can get the bike sorted out...don't beat yourself up over it *hug*
Ah crap, sorry to hear this :(
Glad your in one piece and good luck getting the bike sorted
Let us know if theres anything we can do
Mate, I'm really sorry to hear about this. You say it's a bad thing that you've got 'what if i'd done this" going through your head, but that's what teaches us when we crash. All you have to do is remember what you would've done differently this time and put it into action next time. And remember that this time is now in the past and there isn't anything you can do differently by now!
If you know what I mean.

I found out about this when I found myself lost in South London on the way there, but recognised the end of Rictus'd road, so went to check if he had left yet.
Saw his bike outside, had just gotten off when he appeared.
Told me he had already left but had to come back for levers.
So followed him to the pub and let him shoot off to go do the Rictus magic on Sams bike.
Was happy to see her walk in, as any off you walk from is a good result.
So chin up Sam, the weather last night was seriously urg, and could have happened to any one of us.

Good to hear you're up and walking - but i'll second the advice about getting yourself down t'hospital for a check over. There are loads of annoying little bones in your wrist/hand that are screwed if you don't get them set sharpish. Worth being on the safe side eh.
Hopefully Lupo will go easy on you and not take the chance of painful payback for his little op! ;)

Sorry to hear about it :( Luckily we've got some top folks out there to lend a hand, nice work all. And very kind of you to give them a patient to practice on too, Sammy ;)
But, do get yourself checked out, what you describe in your hand/wrist is a classic falling injury if you try and get your hands out to catch you, dead common on snowboarders- it might be absolutely fine but it's definately best to check. I never bothered going to the hospital when i hurt my hand a few years back, 3 weeks later I finally went in and it turned out to be broken, and too late to set properly so it's all mangled. I am a human cautionary tale! So listen!

Good to hear you're OK Sam. I had a moment today. First one in ages. Went into a corner too quickly had to run very wide and the front end hit some gravel and went out on me. Through the wonder of instinct I stuck my right leg out and got the bike stable again before slowing right down for the next few miles.

Yeah, sorry to hear about your off Sammy. GWS.
I'd just like to echo all the others about getting your injuries checked out.
I came off just over a month ago now - had a bruised elbow for a few weeks but it's only JUST now (in the last week) that fluid has started to form on my elbow ... I'm on Ibuprofen for the severe inflammation now, and if it doesn't sort itself out in a week or two I have to go back to docs to have it "drained" - lovely huh?! LOL (but at least I'm not in any pain) :)
Good luck,

Still feeling achy today but better than yesterday morning, the weird thing is, i don't have a brusie anywhere, its all muscle ache mainly from lifting the bike i think. Managed to sleep last night too instead of replaying what happened thinking what if i did things differently.
Going to strip down the bike tomorrow and i'll write a list of whats damaged. She's a black K5, so black with black frame :)

a .org sticker on your plate is subtle subliminal advertising  but you would have to get in front of her, for her to get a glimpse!
Sorry to hear about this get well soon and get your bruised and bashed bits checked, by a doctor preferably ;).
Anyway, you say that there was traces of white line on your tyre !! This shouldnt happen as it is a hot applied thermoplastic which shouldnt go anywhere. If it has then it has either been applied too hot or too cold or the road wasnt suitable clean and dry when they did it. either way it should have been condemed and re-applied by the council. If they havent done this and you have come off as a result then I think its atleast worth a look at the site and then a letter to them.

Turns out that although spindle is straight, and so is front subframe...
both forks are bent, and rhs one is creased, so even going down to motoliners wont help, plus they have been straightened before, wouldn't want to trust it again as they were already weak :(, rhs disc is scratched up and bent, mud guard is cracked. Not checked the yokes yet, James is taking those off at the moment... also not checked the headstock (sp?)

yeah i'm fine, not even a bruise to show for my efforts... felling a little depressed seeing the bike in bits, kinda a weird feeling of being torn, wanting to get rid of her, but at the same time wanting to fix her and get out on her again, its just the symbol of what i have been through in my life since i've had her that is keeping me hanging on to this bike!! :(

Bummer Sam, I know how you feel too. I high sided my CBR some years ago. As it went sliding down the road I was thinking, so long as it doesn't hit anything it's only going to be superficial damage. It slid down the road, hit the curb and then somersaulted in the air before hitting the ground again. Gutted. It went from repairing a couple of levers and bits of fairing to needing a new front end.
As you have the less desirable pointy and I have the much more handsome curvy, I don't really think any of my spare parts in the shed are going to be of any use. But if anyone knows anything that is interchangeable between the two and I have it, it's yours.

Thanks for the offer Si, although I think you're being a bit harsh on your bike ;)
It's quite liberating taking apart a broken bike. I mean, what's the worst I can do to it :) As Sam said earlier, looks like Both forks bent (One badly), and the bottom yoke is crooked. Spindle looks OK, and front wheel is OK.
Still not sure what we're going to do with the bike. May just break her. Anyone want to buy some bits ;)

Not got rid of my SV front end yet, (Was promised to 21Q if I ever came up with prices tho') Also got a black front fairing in near perfect condition.
If you're hearts not in a GSXR conversion, keeping it SV will be easier & sell easier.
