It's been about a month of trouble free enjoyable riding since I passed my test but in the last 2 days I've come to the conclusion that if there's a god he's out to get me!

My first near miss was on Wednesday. I was out for a wee jaunt because the sun was out, making steady progress down a B road at about 60 when some dozy idiot in a Rover decided he wanted to pull out of a layby without indicating. In doing so I had to swerve onto the wrong side of the road and then he had the cheek to flash his lights and give me the :toss: sign! The second close call then happened about ten minutes later - a skip lorry was using both sides of the same round whilst going round a corner. I had to brake whilst cornering nearly ended up in a hedge.

At this point I'm starting to think I've been cursed and make for the safety of home. About 2 mins from my house I'm going through a 30 limit when a kid (about 5 yrs old I'd say) kicked his football into the road right in front of me! I do the best emergency stop possible and just pull up in time, only to be met by a torrent of abuse from his chav mother who gave me a look like I was the devil incarnated.

I've therefore decided that it's safer to stay at home for the next couple of days and not venture past the front door. I've read stories on this site of fellow org'ers having problems with car drivers and padestrians but I never thought that so many instances of a***hole behaviour could be experienced in such little time!

If there is a God, I think I must have done something to p**s him off

Billy Connelly's out to get you? Watch out, he'll kick you in the nuts with his big banana boots.

I know it's scarey, but as you get more experienced you'll spot these things sooner and have fewer near misses. Not saying the near misses were your fault, it sounds like they weren't remotely, but that doesn't mean you can't do things to avoid them. :)

I'd have slowed down for the car - especially on a b road where cars are likely to pull out and you're less likely to be seen. As for the kids ball...TBH you should have been looking out for that sort of thing.
