Right, I want to buy a freestanding punchy kicky thing to go in my garage that I can lay into whenever the mood takes me... can anybody recommend a brand that in their opinion is the best?

Found a reeeeebok one amongst some others going remarkably cheap on fleabay but I think it's best to get a wee bit of advice first. :smt047

i got a punchbag out the local papper for a tenner, but i do fancy one of those slam-men things that light up showing you where to hit him (but i think they are £200)

Ping pm me. or email me or phone me or something.

I think I've got just what you need. One of the lads in my house left ages ago & he had a decent punch bag that connects to the wall. He never took it. Yours if you want it. I just need to check that no-one else has thrown it out. It's a proper bag i.e. it weighs quite a bit.

The bracket is firmly attached to the wall, you may not want that but just the bag & secure it to the beams in your garage?

All I ask in return is that you photograph yourself in those FMBs & post it in the Photos section for the org to admire and/or drool over ;o)

That pic is of Ping's boots.

I'm not really a boots kinda girl (apart from the TV white boots obviously;)).

Ping, darling, after AR07 I thought you knew I am always available as a kicky-punchy-hitty with sticksy type thing!

Get a six foot one hanging from the rafters of the garage if you reckon the beams can take it. Saves you needing to chain it to the floor to stop it swinging excessively when you hit it. Alternately, you can put it up against the wall (with the area of the wall/floor it's touching covered in old carpet) and just have it tied on at the top to stop it falling over (IE no weight on it), then you can really lay into it, unless you're strong enough to damage the wall (which, I know it sounds funny, but I've seen someone hit so hard that they cracked the wall).

As to brands, don't bother paying top dollar for one unless you're really into it. Kickbags are notorious "use a handful of times then let it gather dust" item like exercise bikes. For this reason, you should be able to pick one up second hand for next to nothing as people want shot of them.

What I really want, is some of those sacks you fill with black beans/sand/ball bearings/nuts that hang up against the wall and lay into. They are superb for conditioning your knuckles and release aggression without injuring yourself like nothing else I know (only laying into a steel framed chair comes close for me and last time I did that I knackered one of my knuckles which is still scarred from it).

Yeh go secondhand, just make sure the base doesn't rub against the wall, last time I kicked a bag I ripped open the bottom and all the stuffing fell out!

golds gym do a similar thingy to the hanging bag but on a stand. cant imagine it being any good for roundhouse kicks or anything though. i had a body pad that when you hold against your body covers chest and belly and slightly lower. its only good if someone holds it for you though.

must get back to muay thai class soon

That's the thing... I've got jab pads but no-one to hold 'em for me when I'm feeling feisty, so need something that can stand on it's own and take a bit of punishment... ;)

I did a bit of muay thai mixed with kick boxing when I was fit (a few years back now). Should really get back to it. Was so much fun. :)

Have to admit I'm swaying towards a slam man atm.
