Hi

I'm looking to buy my first SV and so I wondered if you guys (and Girls) could offer some hints ....??

Do i jump straight in and go for the k7 (?) or wait for the k8 ??

What alarm/immobilisor is recommended ?

oh yeah, most importantly .... where close (within 50/60 miles) to Bristol/Bath does anyone recommend buying it from ??

Thanks

Are they doing the K7 on the 0% finance deal still ?

Not much changes between the years, mainly colours, so if theres a K7 in a colour you like then personally thats what I'd be getting.

The best alarm / immobiliser is a dirty great big chain and a ground anchor. Failing that if you go down the alarm route, then personally I've got a Meta alarm on my GSXR, which has been much less of a pain in the butt than the datatool alarm is on my SV.

Welcome to the forum, you might get a bit more help from the locals if you put a query about local dealers into the South & West Surfers section at the bottom of the forum.

I only really know about Fowlers in Bristol, but I havent used them for servicing etc...

Hope that helps.

Can't really help on the bike buying questions as I've never bought a new one. ... but welcome/greetings etc. (From one stuck in the office on a saturday)

a Second for a chain & ground anchor (or bucket of concrete anchor...) but I suppose it depends on where you are.... Got a Laserline on mine which hasn't annoyed me yet - don't know how "good" it is though

Im my self are opting for a K7 as i realy like the black colour and dont want to miss out.

I have a data tool system 3 on my k7 Gixer and have had no problems with it at all. saying that im not getting one on the Sv as it makes no difference to the insurance.

As for good dealers, I dont live no were near, saying that tho i am going to order mine today from a local deal and you need to be looking at £4k max for the bike OTR. Thats the cheapest i can get it for a k7 on a 57 plate.

Let me know how you get on.

K6 is on the Suzuki 0% finance deal, k7 isn't. Individual dealers might be persuaded though?

I have a K7(57) plate on order from West London Suzuki with full fairings and datatool S4 alarm - I asked about the Sport and was told that that offer was only available on K6 models - They done me a deal on the K7 with £2K down (with part ex and cash) and the rest on 0% over 24 months - That clinched it for me because I didnt want to get a loan for my first big. Should be ready for weekend of the 1st, possibly Monday 3rd.

Sorry cannot advise on deals/dealerships in the South West, Only heard of Fowlers or on whether the Datatool S4 Alarm is any good, but I am advised that it is a super cat 1 and doesnt affect the battery as much as previous models! It will be garaged anyway so if necessary will fit an optimizer to keep the battery in good shape if not ridden for a while!

Meta are very good... and they dont annoy the crap out of me by self arming as well..... accumen are the annoying beep while your indicators are on alarms that self arm, even if you are still sitting on the bike!

I have a datatool 3 on my bike and I wish I'd never had the damn thing fitted, it's a PIA.

Had a Solalarm fitted to the SV when I got it; have to say that it's set about right, sensitive but not overly so, and no problems so far (hope that this is not a 'kiss of death' posting )

With regards buying a K7 or waiting for a K8 - don't wait, get one now ;)

And welcome to the forum iane

You can have my k6 if you want, make me an offer, I'm after a car see, just click here (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=95042)

if you're after new I would say defo go for a k7 if you see on in a colour you like, if not wait a year, as they have a habit of changing apart from that and other small updates, the k8 is probably gonna be like the k7, the same price cannnot always be guaranteed tho. Also the longer you leave it the more the eurocats are gonna restrict your bike, emmisions and such, so an older bike may infact even be more powerful than a new model.
