Welcome! I'm quite new to the riding scene too. Only passed about a month ago.

I love it!! I thought about getting a CBR600/R6/ZX-6R etc but I think I made the intelligent choice. The SV has excellent mid-range power without being over-whelming, but it'll still lift the front wheel under hard acceleration and spin the back in the wet. There's just enough excitement without being too much.
I've definately learned more in the last month or so than I did during my DAS. My only advice is get out on all road types and weather conditions where possible - it'll make you far less fearful in the event that you do get caught out in the rain, for example.
How are you finding it?

Not quite - take a look at the downpipe - however, by normal standards it is a very clean bike !! :)

Welcome to the site and enjoy your SV, great you can do just about anything bike related on it, tour, track day, race, meets etc. A wise choice.

me too! i thought about a sports600, but the SV is not over-whelming as you say, thats exactly how i found it, its fast, but it doesnt scare thepants off ya!
i'm learnng all the time mate, i recently rode her in rain for the first time, felt ok just have to go easy, ride as if you were on ya DAS! i have my scoot for when its wet, that felt very odd after a week on the SV!

only difference i know (beside curvy's looking nicer:mrgreen:) is that the pointy is faster than the curvy when restricted
