last night at 7pm i decided to have a drive to my sisters in barnstaple a total of 188 miles (well i was bored) i took her another pc that i had spare because hers is fubar:) i'll get back the the strange happenings in a mo:) i only stopped an hour at barnstaple had a coffe and headed back to the midlands at midnight, arrived home at 3am this morning to find my floodlight pointing at my garage door had been vandalised? looks like the PIR sensor had been hit with something and was broken off the floodlight and was left just hanging by the wires, it had also been twisted round so the sensor was pointing at the wall not the garage door? i then noticed that 2 house bricks i lean'd up the shed door were on the garden? strange? i open'd the garage door expecting the sv to be gone but she was still there and nothing had been touched? (the garage door was unlocked by the way, it was when i went out to lock it in the early hours of this morning that i noticed the floodlight didnt come on?)
is someone casing my joint and planning a return for my bike?

they where probably seeing what security you got, my advice would be bring the bike indoors:smt045 or sit in the garage with a baseball bat:smt077

certainly strange goings on, to get to our garage you have walk down a shared driveway round the back of the house, the garage is in the back garden. its dark and quiet round there and without the floodlight a would be theif wouldnt be seen.

i put my ped in the kitchen couple years ago, well the parents where on holiday the handle broke on the garage door (i think some one tryed to break in) and really didn't want to leave it outside for obvious reasons

im pretty certain that your house was being scoped mate. imho you should lock down tight and buy a baby monitor for night times, its the only peice of mind you will get. :smt108

Do you still need to borrow my shotgun for that 'squirrel problem' you had Daz? :smt066

I doubt your house is being scoped. Well, not by any serious criminal anyway. They wouldn't leave evidence that they had been there would they? Certainly not anything as obvious as a broken security light and/or moved large heavy objects like bricks.

I think it's an opportunist thief's failed attempt or just vandals (or that light seriously ****es somebody off, and they decided to put it out of action :) ).

All I can think of is maybe they got disturbed or spooked, intented to steal but never quiet got that far. The fact that they tried to knock the sense off shows an attempt to disable the light, although not a very good one.

If you have stuff you can put in front of the doors that would make a noise (boxes, clutter) before you sut it do that, at least they would possibly stumble over it all if they did come back. Wouldn't be your fault if they broke their necks would it.

You could wire up the garage door to the mains electric :smt077 just a thought, You'd soon know if someone had been trying to get in then - sort of like a large fly trap you get at the chippy.

I am in no way condoning electrocuting bike thieves...Oh no hang on a minute, fry the bu**ers

Sounds like someone has their eye on your SV.

I had a few tell tale signs prior to my CG being stolen. Unfortunately it was stolen just hours before I was due to store it in a friend's garage.

yea no signs of anything fishy? ive fixed the floodlight and the sv now has a chain round the back wheel, i usually dont bother locking it up.

It's hard to tell what a thieving b*****d thinks not being one but I would stash the bike somewhere and think of a very clever boobie trap :smt117Failing that I love the baseball bat approach :smt066

Sounds dodgy to me. Is it possible to get a cheap alarm of some kind to go on the garage door, only needs to be enough to make enough noise to scare them off.

Also sounds silly but a while ago my mates car was nearly nicked but he chased them, when the police came they showed them the wall they had marked from when they scoped the place, apparently they mark the wall of houses where there were no alarms, dogs etc etc for when they come back. Big gang going around Essex doing it according to the copper.

Doesn't sound the same but might be worth checking to see if there's anything like chalk/paint on your front wall etc.

And if you find anything.....leave it and i'm sure if you supply the baseball bat and beer a few of us wouldn't mind coming round :smt077:smt077

somewhere, but I cant find it right now, you can buy a tripwire thingy linked to blank cartridges. You can even erm, liven up the cartridges a bit with dog poo or something.

edit -just found it: http://www.airpistol.co.uk/alarm_gun_tripwire_activated.htm

Im liking the shotgun cartridge with the dog poo idea, but what if you set it off ureself and just end up with a bike that you may have just cleaned covered in the brown stuff?

Well my guess is they opened the garage, shone in the torch but the reflection from all that autosol'ing blinded them, so they somehow walked off.

And now they are blind, they cant steal no more!

BTW, a Xena disc alarm lock makes a very loud noise, and only needs to be knocked gently to be activated. Mine cost me 50 quid
