Well following on from this (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?p=1266055#post1266055) as I was on the phone I thought I'd waste their time and get a quote for a car anyway. So before the facts here is the prize and the rules:
The Rules:
The winner will be the one who guesses correctly or gets the closest by the time I get bored with the competition. My decision is final, but can be changed with offers of alcohol or SV parts.
The Prize:
The winner will receive one night with Strechie, redeemable at AR08. No alternative offered.
The Facts:
I asked for a quote on a Toyota MR2 mk1 (thanks to Transformers I started looking for a beat up sports car and found one of these (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1985-TOYOTA-MR2-WHITE_W0QQitemZ170140765287QQihZ007QQcategoryZ1829 0QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem). Its the old box shape one). I've seen them go for as little as £200. But as I don't have a car license it would be my first car so heres the important bits:
Toyota MR2 mk1 standard
Value - £200
No additional security
G reg (1989)
1600cc
Address - Swindon, SN1 postcode (town center, but the nicer part ie not one of the 6 P's to avoid) Not garaged but would not effect the price much based on my bike.
Driver - Male, 24, Professional (eek)
No insurance claims etc but this would be his first car on a full car license. As a bit of additional info I've been riding a bike since I was 16 I got my full license at 17, passed my IAM test in 2003 and have maximum no claims, not that any of that will help.
So what would my premium be?
The sum of... ONE MILLION DOLLARS!

Who is the quote with!?
Quote was with Carole Nash over the phone, I know they're not going to be the cheapest as I've never insured my bike with them but they are useful as a guide.
A brave man getting a Mk1 of that age.
I know, the plan would be keep it for a year and then scrap it so I don't need to worry about servicing and MOT. And I wouldn't use it much anyway, just to do the shopping and to pick up bits of bike etc. But as Fizz said you've seen my bike...
Well there are some good guess's and someone is close, keep 'em comming...

Have you actually seen inside the boot of the MR2?? Few bags of shopping is about all you'd get in there ... I used to have a MR2 mkII (the curvy shape one in pristine white :D) Had to sell it when baby arrived :(
My insurance (for 28 year-old, professional male - with 3 points on licence) was about £650 (fully comp for a 3 year old car). I crashed it twice, and they wanted to put my insurance up to £2000, but then told me that if I had a Thatcham-approved Cat 1 immobiliser fitted they could do my insurance for £800. My first thought was, "And just HOW is having an immobiliser fitted gonna stop me from crashing it? (unless they intend keeping hold of the immobiliser key )" ...
So I'm gonna guess at around £800 for you (the mk1 IIRC has a slightly higher bhp figure than the mkII, plus you're under 25, although in your favour, no points? no accidents, and the value of the car is low).

I just had a fully comp quote on a brand new car of £145 inc loan car and protected ncb.
Sometimes, just sometimes being old has its advantages.

Not always, I was quoted £1451 to insure me gixer for another year (two car crashes this year after an age without a claim, oh and I'm old). Next bike next month.
Forgot to guess the quote, £2398.25.

You might not realise that this is part of a "charm offensive" by your insurance company........ offering you quote they they normally reserve for their younger customers to make you feel good about your age :D
Me? I'd rather feel old than pay that premium ;)

Nothing, as Your gonna off road it on private property..
That is a very cunning plan my boy
I reckon they said
"Sorry sir, due to the number of crashes you have had on your motorcycle we can no longer take such a risk as to insure you, Have a nice day you loon !!!"
Or words to that effect ;)

Well its been a fun competition and the results are close. Very close in fact.
The judges have been in debate for some time to decide on the winner (I say judges, I mean me). And after spending a long time pondering the situation and consequences of the decision (I say pondering, I mean drinking). I can announce the winner...
<Drum Roll>.....................</Drum Roll>
The joint winners are:
Therealvw and Jabba.
My actual quote was £3784 for a 18 year old car worth £200. Jabba was the closest but it was for a TPFT quote, I believe I was given a fully comp quote so in the interests of fairness Therealvw was also the closet as I and he didn't say if it was fully comp or not.
Both of you can now claim your prize of one night with Strechie, it is up to you to decide if that night is separate or together. Its down to the 3 of you to decide, I don't know how your going to sort it out and frankly I don't want to either. Just enjoy your prize and congratulations once again.
Well hopefully this thread has gone to prove 2 things: 1) Strechie makes an excellent prize and 2) Insurance is f**king crazy.
