ah much better, still dont know why people cant just type it! if you say it s faster then learn to type faster!!! much easier. i prefer to type whole words anyway. it even bugs me in text!! everyones messages are really short and mine are long because i have to type every word!

listen to me i sound like a grumpy old fool!......I'm only 21!!!

Meh, it is faster, if you can type Laughs out loud faster than I can type LOL, In my humble Opinion faster than IMHO, and Rolling on the Floor Laughing my Ass off than ROFLMAO then good luck to you.

Plus, in the day's of the interweb, before smilies and user friendly board with spell checkers etc. everyone knew that you weren't actually laughin out loud, but they got the general idea ;)

Perhaps you'd care to work on your spelling, grammar and typing accuracy before slating other people for using shorthand :p ;)

Maybe we choose to use shorthand because we can't be bothered to type the whole word. I use shorthand and I'd like to consider myself a relatively quick typist (comes with using/working with computers for the past 20 years), but the reason I use shorthand is because it saves me time.

To be honest, I reckon most of this shorthand was born out of the days when people were connecting to the internet using a piece of string (a 900 baud modem) and hence every single byte you could save was well worth it, because it didn't just save you time, it saved what little bandwidth you had, and therefore it also saved you money (kerrr-ching!). So people posting on the predecessor to the internet (Electronic Bulletin Boards) would use their own shorthand ... IMHO ;-)

Some of it is very similar to the shorthand we used on shortwave radio, a lot of which looks odd but was chosen for its ease and simplicity in morse code.
HTH was the same, OM for old man, (friend, mate etc), HI for laughter, (Hilarity?, but it was just a few dots in morse).

I just can't help myself. Sorry.

Incorrect use of born instead of borne.
Starting a sentence with a conjunction.
Use of multiple exclamation marks.

I apologise for my pedantry once again.

And what's wrong with that? English evolves with time and usage, stop being so Victorian Mr WRC. It's perfectly acceptable to start a sentence with 'with', 'because' 'and' 'or' 'until' etc!!!!! And multiple !!!!s are OK for emphasis.

Well I was opening myself up for that really wasn't I :D

According to dictionary.com "born" and "borne" mean the same
I have no idea WTF a conjunction is (ignorance is bliss) ;)

Just for the shorthand freaks ...

I know, I know. I'm not saying for one minute that I wouldn't do it... Just making the point that people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, that's all.

I just find it funny that on any forum there's pretty much one thread a week where the whole grammar/spelling thing rears its head, and to be honest I just can't understand why. This is the internet for Christ's sake. I like things to be correct and understandable but I couldn't for the life of me care less if it's not 100% accurate. 99.999% is perfectly adequate.

Same here WRC ... I too like things to be correct and understandable, but at the end of the day, as long as I can make out what someone is trying to say, I don't really care ;-)

This is interesting tho' ...

The jump is supposed to be in 3rd person present tense, where an 's' occurs. ;)

I suspect a conjunction would fit nicely as a precursor to the exhortation to "stop being so Victorian"; a semicolon just as well. But please, not a plain comma.

The construct of the final two sentences - brief though they were - suggests that you have omitted the necessary question marks. Tch, Tch.

(We will not discuss that the general salutation "Well noted" might perhaps more properly have been encased with speech marks. What with you being a colonial, and all that.)

you have to forgive Ol Boc folks, he remembers when punctuation was a really big issue.........
After all he remembers first hand how difficult it can be to have to re - chisel a new tablet simply because some ill educated fool has used a semi-colon instead of a comma............

Stfw. ;)

In all seriousness though, I like it if I can actually understand what someone is saying without much effort. If I have to re-read it more than once to get the meaning, I don't usually bother trying to comprehend it.

Colonial? Born and raised in Blighty.

Laughs out Loud.

But, For Your Information, I was hoping someone would see the missing question marks and quotation marks and add them.

Well done.
Ol Boc.
By The Way, what does Ol Boc refer to?

Captain Nemo
24-08-07, 08:53 AM
Ol Boc refers to a previous user name before he was banned for buying a cruiser...........

in a previous life , (before he joined witness protection) he was rumoured to have been called El Bocadilldo, or El Boc for short, i think the Ol refers to the fact that he is old, he doesnt say but using the rings around the trunk methos he is 367yr old,

His Computer was hacked by Ikea and he lost his user name and had to re register,

rumour has it that hes very close to Camilla Jessop, and in a bid to cool down their relationship he now carries out missionary work in Hong Kong.

He Owns a fleet of Whaling ships and is currently campaigning to reintroduce whaling in a bid to offset the rising tides caused by Global Warming.

He runs a franchise in japan for those vending machines with the schoolies pants in.

His family own the town of skipton and distribute maundy money to the areas poor on boxing day and michaelmas eve.

that is all
