I bought todays MCN and was appalled to read a letter under the heading "What a ghoul" c/o Judith Oppenheimer

It contained the following text:

I read with some grim satisfaction in this weeks press that biker deaths rose by 25% during the first quarter of this year

Her letter goes on about her village on the A51 and the thursday night rally.....which is the Stormy Petrel pub at Ternhill. The writer is cheesed off at the noise the bikers make when going through the village and ends her letter with:

every biker death represents one fewer menace on our roads and a tiny measure of relief

Did anyone else read the letter. I am sure MCN printed it just to create controversy.

And people still think fitting loud race cans is a good idea!

Unfotunately, not everyone is alive to the good of biking, and so we do have a certain responsibility in sharing our activities with others. Having said that, her viewpoint is totally unacceptable.

That letter was a disgrace. I cant believe somebody has actually taken the time to write that letter! and the fact that MCN has published it without his/her address! Okay I like loud cans and I accept that they are not to everybodys taste. But I hate "boy racers" with 1000W Amps and Subs who blare their music out at max chatt through reading town centre, but I dont hope they die wiring up the subs in a freak crossed wire accident.

Loud cans or not, its one thing to say such things in private but to basically wish all bikers dead in a 'national' paper is a disgrace and MCN for printing it. Wherever this woman is doesnt really matter, all those bikes and other vehicles use her local roads because they can, because they have paid their road tax and can drive wherever and whenever they like, loud can or not.

Before we all go round there to burn the witch...

Isn't it possible someone else wrote that letter, and posted it using her name, hence 'c/o Judith Oppenheimer'?

But that doesn't necessarily mean we should vilify her without access to all the facts.

Sorry but I am sick to death of people villifying bikers!!! It sucks. And I know some bikers thrive off it, they almost love the attention and the constant arguement. But I am sick of it. That is why I have canned road riding for a while and decided to go racing. I am sick of being branded some leatehr clad monster who goes around terrorising old people and being a menace to society! I'm not, I just have a hobby.

btw that pic is crying out for a shopping;)

You've both missed the point - it doesn't have to have been THAT Judith Oppenheimer, or even any OTHER Judith Oppenheimer. It could have been someone with an anti-Judith Oppenheimer agenda, maybe called Julian Starkey from Wythenshawe.

Who knows?

Aren't we all, but jumping to conclusions as to who's doing it and acting upon those conclusions without any evidence other than a name printed in one of the least factually accurate publications in the country isn't necessarily a good way to respond.

Shame about misspelling upon though.

Isn't the poor spelling deliberate, it will give Judith something else to bash us with.

Be interesting to see if sideshow gets any response and what it says.

I don't like it any more than the rest of you, but I would rather have all the facts before anyone goes vilifying anyone else ;-)

I do agree that whoever it is their attitude to their fellow human beings is utterly repugnant!

It really bugs me to read something like this in the national press, do you think they would be so quick to print a letter glorifying the deaths of Christians/the aged/Asians/redheads /etc? No. I don't think so either.

For some reason it seems perfectly reasonable to pick on certain other minority groups (i.e. bikers) though. Unfortunately if three thousand bikers ride well and three ride like morons then it's the three who get noticed. Yes, just like in most walks of life, there is always the minority of idiots who spoil it for everyone else, and biking is no different. But what about idiotic car drivers, the boy-racers and their supercharged cars doing handbrake turns or red-light racing in the middle of the night at some supermarket car park or deserted town centre? How about some of the loonies that drive artics and transits, oh and the 4x4 brigade? Or don't they exist in this woman's little world?

I think she has put her self at considerable risk writing that letter.......I know of a few crazy crazy people who would take that to heart and hunt her down.

Hell in the current climate of bikers shooting bikers, for a non biker to say crap like that is very risky business.

I say "whatever" because to be honest i really dont care about whinging old farts like that... i think they are best suited to just sitting down and shutting up lol, why do you think we have old peoples homes so we can boot em all off in there when they start moaning... quite age-ist i know but im sick of people wanting things to be like the olden days, where people went to dances and there were flowers and kittens everywhere lol. . . . you get the idea.. :D

Don't send any emails to this person!!

2 Resons:

You don't know if you've gto the right email address.

You don't know if she actually did write that letter in MCN.

A couple of years ago the BNP got in trouble because one of their candidates wrote into a local rag pretending to be a nice old dear sick of the local immigration policy who was going to vote BNP.

Know your facts.

Imagine if it is a hoax & she starts getting abusive emails from loads of people condemning "her" letter.

I'm sure the national press would have kittens, "Nations bikers attack defenceless 80 year old grandmother" etc

So its ok to victimisng modifed car drivers and tarnish them with the same brush, but its not ok to victimise bikers and tarnish them all with the same brush.... (although those you've mentioned kinda say boyracer neds to me). Remember, not everyones the same.

Although this women, I understand EXACTLY her type of person as i have to work with narrow minded im right your wrong type people..... Just ignore it, although its very bad of a paper to publicise that. Its only going to wind people up...

No now people are taking this the wrong way. I wasnt victimising against modified car drivers. If you actually read what I wrote previously I say each to their own! I dont have to like it but,
A: I dont go writing into the national press (regardless of if its More Crap News)
B: I dont go so far as saying i wish that they would all die.

Yes I may have gone and sent the email to the wrong person and yes I am quite a hot-head and may have rushed in a bit quick. If this is the case then I will send a massive letter of apoligy to the woman and send her a crate of stella.
Its OK for all you lot to have a debate about all this but at the end of the day, what does this bloody forum achieve if all we do is talk about stuff.
Now I'm not a martyr by any means but I dont like people sticking their noses in where it dont belong!
Sometimes forums remind me of that wonderful film the life of Brian!

I don't, I wouldn't give his/her letter a second thought, much less get all agitated and quick to throw some back their way.

But your still generalising...

Your saying all people who drive modifed cars basically drive round towns with their ICE systems making as much noise as possible. I've got a Corsa, i don't drive round towns, in fact, i haven't even got a head unit, let alone subs and speakers (although I did), but my car has a bodykit, so you would look and generalise that im a boyracer....

Same way this women is generalising all bikers are the same.

Only difference is your not saying you wish the boyracers would die.... But fundimentally your doing the same as her....

Forums are good to talk as in reality, you can argue all you want and nothing will happen. Remember the people of our country voted NO to go to war, but we went anyway.

Lots of petitions happen, most get thrown out.

Everyone knows tougher punishments should happen to scum, but they won't.

Everyone knows petrol is rediculas in price, but no-one stops buying fuel.

Is the way it is now, you can either sit there and moan, or just get on with it and make arrangements to move from this country. And when you get to your new country, find exactly the same people who hate the same thing.

Its life.

There's nothing wrong with generalising/stereotyping, instead of class division people today subscribe to 'lifestyle tribes' and hook into tokens, symbolism and merchandise of that culture (Harleys, the tuned Saxo crowd, Emo kids) etc. I couldn't do my job without it and many others couldn't. As long as you're still prepared to assess situations and people individually.

It's the death wishing that's unacceptable.

But thats what a forum is for.

if you want to do anything about it complain to MCN / your local MP etc etc.

I doubt you'll get anywhere but if it makes you feel better.

I dont agree with what the woman has said, but I'll defend her right to say it, its her opinion and she's entitled to it, just as you are to disagree with it.

Has anybody looked on the MCN forum to see if they are getting the knee jerk response on their that they were after...

MCN arent after looking after bikers rights, of protecting bikers, IMHO all they want to do is to sell papers, hence why they make up stuff, exaggerate the truth etc etc.

The letter in question has been printed to provoke debate and nothing more to my thinking. It just might also allow bike owners to consider at times what seems fun to them, can be an intrusive nuisance to others.
