Hi all,
Shell came off her bike last night and is currently in hospital.
She is ok thankfully, apart from just a broken arm / shoulder. They suspected a fractured spine but after carrying out a CT scan her spine is unaffected. With the position of the break in her shoulder we are awaiting a visit from the Orthopaedic surgeon to decide whether she requires a pin or not. I will update more when I have visited Shell later on. She also has a fair amount of grazing on her right hand side, which probably looks worse than it is.
As for the bike, I only looked at it very briefly yesterday on the roadside. I was more concerned about my darling girlfriend!! The bike appears ok on the left side, however the right hand side fairing will be knackered, exhaust is dented, crash bung snapped off, indicator and mirror broke. I am unsure with crash bungs as to their purpose - is it that they break off after the initial impact thus protecting the frame, or are they supposed to stay intact? I will be recovering the bike from the police later on today and will do a more thorough inspection. On my quick look last night the forks etc all appeared straight, but I will get them checked more.
She said the last time she looked at her speedo prior to coming off she was doing 26mph round a left hand bend. Shell is sure she wasnt speeding which was confirmed by the police accident investigator who measured how far the bike had travelled from where Shell landed on the road. She lost the bike by clipping a curb.
Shell was on her way home from visiting a local bike shop where she had looked into trading Zuky for a new Fazer 600 as she struggles with the riding position of the SV. In her humour bless her, while being treated by the paramedics she said "Chris, they offered my £3k part ex on a new Fazer, will I still get that do you think".
As I said, I will post back when I get more news from Shell.
Get well soon baby!!
Chris

Sorry to hear that Shell, get well soon!
The curse of the bike trade in stikes again... years ago, I was on the way back from a shop after agreeing a trade in on my second GPZ500, got clipped by a van that had jumped some lights and wrote the bike off.
I hope it's good news about the shoulder and wish Shell a speedy recovery.

I have been lurking here for a while now, but being a VFR rider felt like an outsider who shouldnt sign up!. Still, I guess I have a V engine so not that too much dissimilar (beats an IL4 anyday!!) :) :)
As said a million times, bikes can be fixed, people can't
GWS Shelley, good luck for a speedy recovery.

Shouldn't worry about being an "outsider" there are loads on here. Hope Shelly heals quick and gets "back on the horse" soon enough.

UPDATE ON SHELL:
I have just spoke to the hospital. The surgeon has done his assessment and is happy for the break to heal by itself so luckily Shell wont require an operation. She should hopefully be home in the next day or two, as she is still in alot of pain at the moment.
When I visit her later on today I will pass on all of your kind words. She will appreciate them all :smt008:smt008
Oh no, another one down :(

Oh Bugger.
Glad to hear it's not that bad Shell. Quedos had exactly the same problem with her SV as far as the riding position goes - she's got a REALLY dodgy back. She has recently bought a lovely BLACK Kwak ER6-f which looks miles better that the other colours and has a good upright position. Very comfy. The best thing is - it rides kinda like the SV since it's a twin (parallel) and develops about the same power and torque. Not all that revvy IL4 stuff, so worth a look if you like the twin thing........ Tigersaw also bought an ER6-f if I recall.
Good luck on your recovery.

Right, I have now got Shells bike back at work and have checked her out and found the following:
RHS Mirror scraped
RHS Bar end damaged
Front Brake lever bent
Rear brake lever snapped off
RHS Fairing cracked and knackered
RHS Crash Mushroom buggered (saved the bike though!)
RHS Front Indicator broken
RHS Front fairing (around lights) scuffed (can prob rub down and paint)
Front mudguard slight scuff (again can rub down and paint)
Akropovic exhaust can and pipes dented
Engine case slight scuff (sand down and paint job)
Thats all I can see. The forks are all straight still so it really is just the damage to the right hand side.
Anyone have any of the above parts spare lying around in their sheds / garages and wishing to donate them to the "Repair Shellywoozle's bike while she's in hospital" scheme please let me know :)
Off to see her now :)

oh dear:( get well soon shelly.
Get well soon Shelly.
There's nothing wrong with a Fazer, it's just different. The riding position is more comfortable at slower speeds than the SVS and the power delivery is a lot easier at lower engine speeds. Thats the conclusion I came to when I had one for a curtesty bike when mine was in for a service.
The SV is a fantastic bike and of all the bikes I've owned it is easilly my favorite middleweight so far out on the open road. Round town and slower speeds though, for me anyway the prone riding position, like my gixer is not the best.

Thank you all for your thoughts and wishes. 6 pages I couldn't believe it when I saw it, cheered me up loads, you guys are great.
I am back home now, a little immobilised but trying to keep happy. Chris has been wonderful and is looking atfer me and also trying to patch Zuky together. I was only 3rd party insured so it's stinging more than my arm is hee hee. I went to see Zuky yesterday, apart from the nice shiney fairings being not so shiney and a few broken levers she looks ok. Nothing a bit of paint won't sort. I feel better now I seen her.
Right I am off to watch Jeremy Kyle hee hee xx

Glad to hear you and Zuky are ok(ish!). Hope you heal up quickly and get back on as soon as poss.

Shelly Update
Just come back from the hospital, seen for the 1st time my proximal humerus piccies (break just below shoulder). Mr bone looks like it is in 2 pieces and one is up in my shoulder joint, docs say it's inline and looks ok so I trust them, have no choice. 6-8 weeks I may be near the end of all this cast stuff.
I also had the dressing taken off my hip where i grazed it sliding down the road, healed up wonderfully. I have flakey scabby skin which is a little red underneath, I have lost my suntan but hey I have something to pick at when i am realy bored.
So, I am sitting here with a glass of milk wishing for a fast healing process, all I want is a nice shower and a drink of something in a little stronger, amazing what we take for granted, even missing giving my other half a hug :grouphug:.
Ride safely all, hope to be back riding soon xx

I know how your feelin shell i busted my left arm a year or so ago when i can off my pushbike while doing about 20mph downhill, went right over the handlebars and instinctively put my arm out to break my fall which did the job as it saved my noggin from hitting the floor, its realy flustrating not being able to just do the simple things we take for granted, be patient you will soon be back to normal. ;-)
