it because we don't provide them with enough activities, youth clubs etc:rolleyes:. I mean i never went to a youth club yet it hasn't compelled me to mug old ladies, steal cars, shoot some one because i don't like the look of them. its because there is no law for them, they will just get away with it and the only punishment thy will get is a policeman saying "don't do that its bad"
and things will only get worse, wee need a government with sense, hug a hoody:smt044

I agree wholeheartedly with you wideboy, the law doesn't punish any more, it seems to be a supplimentary education system put in place to try to "gently gently, hugs and cushions" re-educate offenders. However most criminals have little or no education in the first place and are well aware that if they pay lip service to the current system, they will be let off nearly scott free.
Don't think community service actually involves and hard, back breaking work either. Often, it will involve attempts to get people to enjoy team sports, ie football (well known for it's well behaved fans).

"So, you are guilt of several offences for which I can imprison you, however, I believe you should suffer the terrible fate of having to play with your mates, on a purpose built facility."

its because this country has decided to be run (and the public let it happen) by a bunch of PC out of touch human rights loving co*cks. Also people in the UK bang on about the rights of all. IMO if you commit a crime like that then you forfit all human rights.
The way to stop it is as follows.
Bring back corpral punihment in schools.
Stop bowing down to PC and ensuring that the human rights of the offender are forfitted once commited and imprisoned.
revert Prison back to the victorian standard of 10 to a hole and regular beatings with little food and no exersise etc, its meant to be a punishment not a holiday camp!!
Dish out harder sentances for these type of crimes.
Bring back hanging.
Bring back national service.
give the police powers to beat thugs like this on the spot, and reduce their red tape.
Open revolt by the public agains the state of the UK, with me as the head of the revolt, then once the government has been brought down ill take over as a fictator for a few years and ensure there is a zero tolerance to crime of any sort before making the UK a good place to live and somewhere to be proud to say you come from again!!

Theres a knife incident every 8 minutes not every 8 seconds.
Ch00
yes, thats what i meant
Theres a knife incident every 8 minutes not every 8 seconds.
So...... in a 365-day year that's 65,700 knife incidents per year and, assuming a population of 60million that's 1 knife incident per 900 residents.
325000 people in Cardiff, so about 360 per year, i.e. 1 a day. Not so bad, is it?
somthing needs to be done,

The latest excuse from the government ...
Now they are blaming unruly children on "absent fathers". That just sickens me. The government should start getting it's own house in order before casting aspersions. If the law wasn't so damn soft, there would be a much greater deterrent to break it in the first place!
Times change, society changes, but the law seems to remain based on archaic rules. Those that HAVE been updated to reflect changes in society don't go nearly far enough in the punishments that are handed out.
It really irritates the hell out of me that so many crims these days hide behind the "Human Rights Act", or use it to get their "new pad" loaded with all manner of goodies (TV, Playstations, hi-fi's, iPods). What sort of deterrent is that??
IMO, what most of these offenders need is the "short, sharp, shock" treatment ... quite literally. Sentence them to the electric chair ... then when they are strapped in and ready to fry, power up an UNCONNECTED generator, and throw the switch (that isn't connected to anything), but give them a sort of tazer shock at the same time ... they soil themselves, and are free to go ... bet they won't re-offend in such a hurry if next time the law states the generator and switch be CONNECTED ;-)
Ok, so it was a drastic measure :smt045 but possibly one of the few tactics that would work on some of these offenders!

The worst thing with that sicko sexually assaulting those youngsters is that he pleaded guiltyu and still escaped jail? He admitted it for crying out loud. Still who can blame him for pleading guilty, if he got jailed he would have had a roof over his head, meals, heat, a pool table, tv, and free use of a gym. Hmmmmmm, I'm off to steal sweets and ride over the speed limit. Do they have internet in jail?
why dont we train all the lifers up to build more prisons and make prisons like prisons bars stone walls a bed a toilet and thats where you stay 24/7 not holiday camps with sky tv duvets radios and posters its time we knocked benefits on the head for the people that are able to work, there should be no human rights for people that dont act humainly, i dont agree with national service why should the forces have to put up with the inconsiderate ****s, oh yeah and bring back the death penalty then the rest of us can work hard and be rewarded. not taxed to pay for the scumbags, ok I'll calm down now
Looks like everyone agrees on here that something needs to be done, lets revolt!
COuld send the hoodies to Iraq and Afgan as part of the Royal Chav corps or something, why should decent young soldiers die when we can solve two problems at once by sending our worthless scum to die out there and stop the good soldies from dying.
I bet they wont think they are so hard and gobby when they have constant mortar attack threat when in base. and the very real fear of an ambush everythim they leave camp. will teach them respect for others and that htey cant just think forthemselves not to mention the concequences of their actions.
from personal experiance its not that nice and im not in the infantry who do it on a daily basis. massive respect to those guys.

So, they run around in groups they call "gangs", wielding knives and guns, wearing hoodies, and waging "war" on anyone NOT in their gang ...
Military service ... they run around in groups they call "platoons", wielding knives and guns, wearing a military uniform, and waging "urban war" against the Taliban.
I don't see much difference there ;-)
I don't think national service need to be military service, just military discipline. I'm sure the military do not want a conscripts. I'm sure there is plnety of work needed to be done is this county.
I against hanging, there have been executions of the innocent before. That's a price too high to pay for justice, but life in prison should mean you will die there.

All sounds good but we have spent the last twenty years doubling our prison population and inventing ever more elaborate ways of catching and locking up more and more crims. All that has solved nothing at all.Perhaps we are barking up the wrong tree, and need to look at other European countries that don't have our problems and don't have anywhere near our prison population either.
Keith1983

Im sure that if we sent immigrants that commit crimes back to their county of origin that we would have a much smaller prison population!

In Poland if by the age of 18 (IIRC) you are not either:
In full time employment
OR
In full time education
You do a year's national service.
Just a thought.....

+1 True.
Also once in they will learn that if they dont do as they are told and go there with their attitude as it is under combat situations then the good hiding the rest of their section will dish out once back in base will sood adjust them. Its called the back of the hand test!!

You have to ask yourself why the government are allowing things to get this bad!!
Probably because big changes are coming and they have to get us so f'ing fed up with the staus quo that we will accept the new ways and new laws with open arms!
The roads are being left to rot so when pay per mile comes in with promises of new and better roads we will pay gladly just to get our smooth roads back.
There is another scenario which I don't like to think about too much and that is the worlds foreign debts. How is America going to claw its way back from the brink monetarily? A massive crash of stock market and currency values may be on the cards. A huge world recession the likes of which have never been witnessed before....?
We are going to make sure that over the next few years we pay all our debts off so we don't have to answer to anyone should the worst happen! Anyone owing money is going to be in a world of sh*t when interest rates go ballistic! How many people have mortgages??
RhythmJunkie
24-08-07, 07:57 PM
That may have seemed off topic but its all relevant to the collapse of law & order although its never as bad as they would have you think.....sells plenty of burglar alarms and insurance though!
The recession hit world is real though!
Remember the dole queues under the Thatcher government and people pinching vegetables from fields to feed their families?
Ah yes I remember the 80's! :smt003

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Arpaio
THat's a brilliant link, thank for that :)
When Arpaio took office, inmates were routinely being released early due to overcrowding. Arpaio believed that "courts, not head count" should determine when an inmate is released, and that no officer should be deterred from making an arrest for fear that the inmate would be released due to jail overcrowding.
However, a new jail would have cost Maricopa County taxpayers around US$70 million. So instead, Arpaio obtained used tents from the military, and established Tent City in a parking lot adjacent to one of the jail facilities, for a reported cost (mainly cement pads, fencing, and cooling fans) of around US$100,000. As an announcement to future inmates that they should not expect early release upon overcrowding, but more tents instead, Arpaio added a (pink neon) "Vacancy" sign to the outside of Tent City. The original sign was destroyed in an inmate riot, but was quickly replaced at an estimated cost of US$500. A second Tent City was opened in 1996 adjacent to another jail facility, and houses female inmates.
During the summer of 2003, when outside temperatures exceeded 110 degrees Fahrenheit (higher than average, even for scorching hot Phoenix) Arpaio said to complaining inmates, "It's 120 degrees in Iraq and the soldiers are living in tents and they didn't commit any crimes, so shut your mouths" [2] (http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/nation/20030725-2230-phoenixheat.html). Inmates were given permission to wear only their pink underwear.
Brilliant!

Except the Taliban, insurgents etc. fight back with, shall we say, 'gusto'!
Methinks a little bit less tolerance is in order. And for the time being, we need to ignore anyone who says prisons are full? Pile 'em high, treat 'em cheap! It shouldn't be a nice place to go.
