FIRST of all, sort the front suspension. Maxton springs cost about £80 and will make the bike much nicer to ride. THEN crash bungs, tail tidy, exhaust et al.

Training. Biggest factor in riding is the brain.

Protective gear.

Sort the front.

exhaust - for the grins

Correct! The only important thing about biking is looking cool.

Bugger.I knew there was something I was doing all wrong.
Right it's off with the mushrooms and a new set of Rossi look alike leathers on order.Should I get wheel tape and white lettering for the tyres?

Um...its not about looks, its about function. If you drop the bike, they can save alot of money...

I know their purpose, but think they completely ruin the look of a bike, which I think is also important. Personal preference I guess

If you dont feel comfortable on a bike and think you may drop it going slowly then go for it. :)

Erm what's beincomfortable on the bike got to do with it? I've been riding for over 10 years, having a few bikes from a 2 stroke 125 to triumph 955i. I still fit bungs to my bikes as accidents do happen, that's why they are called accidents

Bungs if you're worried about dropping it, as IMHO they do give some piece of mind.

Then just spent the rest on petrol and enjoy it.

Crikey I never thought crash bungs would be such a touchy subject, some people like them some dont, I see more bikes without them than I do with.

In summaryI much prefer bikes without them, thats my preference. Appologies for upsetting anyone. :plod:;)

IMHO unless your bike is a dog, crash bungs are essential

100 lashings for you Paterson. Not so much for slating crash bungs but more for voicing your personal preference and failing to know you'd be chastised for it.:smt079

Honestly, some people will never learn ;)

Crash Bungs, if you are new to riding there is a good chance it'll fall over of the stand, while wheeling it arond etc etc.

Front springs.

But before all that make sure you have good kit for yourself. Helmet, boots, gloves etc etc etc.

Or if you've been riding a while and you get cocky, and you dont put your girlfriends bike on the side stand properly and it rolls off on the floor I think the bungs are well worth it, scuffed bung, damaged pride but the bike was fine not a mark on it.

As newbie, nobody is saying you'll definately drop your bike. I rode for 2 years without dropping one, but then I dropped the same bike 3 times in the space of two or three months through being over confident. Hence why both my bikes have bungs on them as you never know whats round that next corner etc etc.

A scuffed bung and dented pride is better than a big bill IMHO and with the R & G's ebike give me a discount on my insurance to.

crash bungs only help when you drop it in a corner not with head-ons ride it safely if you like it and another thing to get as well as whats been suggested is a radiator guard before you flatten your new rad

At the end of the day its your decision and as much as some may not understand it(myself included) we respect it.

If you have an offski though, you'll rightly deserve less sympathy on the bike damage front :)
