View Full Version : i have a problem (of sorts) (warning big images)
i went for a ride today on my bike went round a corner and heard a scraping noise was leaning quite far and going fairly quick about 60mph. Didn't sound like metal was worried didn't know what it was got home checked over the bike only scratch could find was on the lower of the crash bung see below:

Now i know it wasn't there before monday as i cleand the bike up for going to see BSB at cadwell (sad i know) and has not been dropped since. However my tyres still have tread left and bobbles still remain.
Front tyre:

so is this as far as i can lean( without taking of crash protectors) or am i doing something wrong

????? Either how far do the crash bungs stick out or were you riding up a ledge??? That is bizzare!

that cant have caused that, a graze on the road should be smooth like when a knee slider touches down.

you'd have sanded it flatter than that if you caught it doing 60mph;)
edit: beaten to it by kwak...
it was about 60 cant be too exact, didn't really have the time to look at the speedo, crash bung stick out about 5 and half inches from the frame. The road wasn't smooth e.g. like a track. It was usual B road coarseness. As i said heard the scraping and stood bike up a little.

Surely you can't touch the bung down before the footpeg??
Naa, cant be the crash protectors scraping down, could be the pegs, bellypan or even possably the rear part of the downpipes.

Bungs only touch down when your on your side, sliding down the road :)
BUT
a footpeg will happily scrap, check your hero blobs :D
Matt
checked footpegs no marks, don't have belly pan so i dont have a clue!! I was so glad when got home my fairing hadn't fallen off or anythin!! going to get a friend and lean the bike stationary and see, don't know how bung got scratched then. Also like to point out the scrap is smooth to feel i zoomed in a fair bit for the pic so confused!!

If the bung grazed the road....so did your knee?

Wow! Hopkins Style!
Have you got a hugger? I thought I was a hero the other day, but I recently fitted new tyres, so they run a bit closer to the hugger. Stones seem to love getting caught in there!
Long shot I know.:)

I'd bet you money that the mark on the bung was caused by a stationary or very low speed drop... For one thing, those look like the new R&Gs, they bend when they hit the ground if the bike's moving ;)
Have you checked your toe sliders?

Is this a feckin wind up? Scraped the bungs?
BTW - you can get as many friends as you want to lay the bike on its side - makes feck all difference without a rider on board.
no wind up, i wear trainers  so cant be toe sliders( getting boots soon couldn't really afford them to start with) and i keep my knee tucked into bike as only wear draggin jeans and after making contact with the ground once with them don't want to do it again. I am completely baffled by this as i said i knew it wasn't there before cadwell and while i have been around it it hasn't dropped sorry if it seems it is a windup, i promise its not, just cant get my head around what it was:confused:. oh and BTW i have no rear hugger.

Do you have a front mud guard thingy - forget what they're called. I have one the kwak and it traps stones and stuff which can sometimes sound like something scraping.
Do you have a front mud guard thingy yes got one, hopefully it was that then.

You have been visited by the tarmac fairy.
It's a bit like being"taken up" by aliens in that it defies all logic and explanation. You need to have been there to understand or to have seen a few too many Monty Python films.:D

you still have some chicken strip on the rear which means nothing could have been touching you have to go right over to the edge of the tyre to get the pegs, brake, gear selector down. you prob just ran over some form of metal on the road....

Trust me, having raced SV650's for 4 seasons i have not yet scraped my crash bungs...apart from during a tarmac excursion. It isnt possible.
More than likely is something on the road got picked up by the front wheel and then scraped under the front mudgaurd and back out again. Have had this happen a few times.
You can see from this picture of me leaning the bike over during a fast corner that the crash bung is a long way off getting near the floor!.

You need some new tyres dude, look at the perishing on the front!! [-X :D
It is a mystery how them scrapes got on the bung really as even if other stuff let you lean that far, you would probably have crushed ya leg a bit before getting to the bung, it looks more like a 'garden path wall' type injury to me as the scraping isn't really in quite the right direction if it were the road ...

As is the whole bike!! :D Evidently Hopkins you are not!! :smt116
But yes, even though your bike has completely different bungs fitted to what ad53ggz’s has ;) the R&Gs like he has for the curvy – although they do stick out 5 miles, are still only gonna scrape after other stuff!! 8)
As he hasn’t even got rearsets, certainly the pegs would have gone down first!!

methinks this was just an excuse to show a cool picture and have us all drooling ;)
So was I right then - the front mud guard? What do I win?

Not strictly true...I have corsa III's on the kwak which have 1/2 inch strips and scraped hero blobs
it was no excuse to show a picture if it was i definitely wouldn't have showed you all the chicken strips on the tyres :smt053 !!!, anyway went round a different corner today with friend following and footpeg scraped so looks like whatever happened before was a one off and was the stone in the front fender thing like said. So thanks everyone! Now all i need is practice to get rid of those chicken strips so i can hold my head up high lol.
Oh and btw hope i don't need new tyres quite yet just bought those 2 brand new about 1500-2000 miles ago( 2months):smt022 and i can't afford any new one's just now, plus they have tons of tread.

Nah, there's nothing wrong with those IMO... What tyre are they? They just look like they've been fairly hot, but not hot enough to snot up.
What tyre are they?
