I noticed there were no responses. It's mainly cos I couldn't think of anything to say. The only thing that pops into my head other than "he's pretty damn good at racing in general" is "how the f*** does he afford to have all this fun?".

My kart is about 15-20yrs old, there isn't actually a class that exists any more that I could race my kart in!!! Saying that I think they have a 'run anything' class at Matchams, but that hardly seems fair ... ;)
So it'd mean a new kart ... to be honest I have been thinking about that anyway, as ... well mine is always breaking down and I am now throwing serious money at it to try and keep it rolling and to no great effect  ...
But I am not sure I want to race karts anyway ... from my bike days I take racing far too seriously and putting pressure on yourself to perform totally takes the 'fun' out of it!! :(
I see you are Southampton, Forest Edge is near Andover, so not far form you, I'll let you know next time I go Karting and you can come have a watch ... more importantly you can come push!!! :D

The kart only cost me £250!!! (ok, ok, so I have spent many times that on karting since  but it really is ‘bottom end’ stuff I have got!!)
I am not a rich man, therefore always have to do stuff ‘bottom end’ … I only direct money at stuff where it is important … you will never see my kart/bike with a decent spray job … you will never see me turn up in a massive transporter … you will never see me buying a round down the bar!! :D … Stuff like that!
I am like that with everything I do ... I only direct money at things that are important to me … no frills – no spills - if I can find a more cost effective/logical way of doing something I will!! I just try and make the best of what I have - minimum wastage!! ;)

..
I'll give you 1p per push!! :D … It’s a good workout … perhaps I should charge you to push me!?!? :D
I can't really let you 'have a go' as you have to have signed on (and paid) to be allowed out on track. They check you have wristbands (issued at sign on). But I can guarantee after seeing these things in action you will be on eBay finding your own ;)

With that engine, and that gearing its about 75 (its about 80odd with my main engine). That is fast enough when ya bum is literally scraping the floor!! :smt104
With taller gearing they do about a ton ... but the straight isn't long enough at FE to require that.

'Making one' do you know much about kart geometry??? Bearing in mind it on the face of it seems quite basic (no suspension and solid rear axle), it is exactly those reasons why it is actually a little complicated ... well at least important to get it right ;) ... if you can't make a kart with geometry where it lifts the inside rear wheel, it will never be able to turn (within any useful radius)! :D
Oh and I don't 'come' from Portsmouth, I just live near there, please don't associate me with those knuckle draggers!!! :smt012 :smt082
Blue, do you just take it onto your local track then? I looked into Kart racing about a year ago and discovered it was far too expensive for me to take up! Plus I always go into corners too quickly and find myself losing loads of time going sideways

yeah I do the Kart equivalent of trackdays on mine  There are quite a few tracks in about a 100mile radius, I intend to do as many as possible over time ... but the main 'proper' local one is Forest Edge ... Matchams is about equidistant and good fun, but really poor surface ... it damages the kart and a bit 'Micky mouse' in its setup so not gonna be a regular venue ...

i did the kiddie karts when i were a wee nipper at Matchams:king:, the track at hollywell fun park in Cornwall is good but i doubt they would let you take your own seeing as their karts are slow and boring:-D and have restrictors
We've got Teesside Autodrome near us and an Ironman event with so many people in it (15 minimum i think) is about £45 for 10min practice 10 min qualify and 40min race which is pretty good I thought. Thats with their karts though but the track is very good.

Are they the 4-stroke honda jobs or the 100cc 2-stroke DD karts??? they are a world apart ;)
