I've been trying lately and i have found that even hanging off the bike, my toe sliders hit the floor first making me reluctant to go over anymore?

Can you be a bit more detailed please mate.

Your foot on the footpeg on the inside of the corner should be rested on the peg by the toes (well, not actualy the toes, but the knuckle of the toes)
This keeps it out of the way. Have a look at some pictures of poeple dragging their knees (motogp.com has some excellent photography of this) and see how the professionals do it

You are probably not 'off' the bike enough. The amount of people I see trying to get their kneedown just tend to stick their knee out a bit without hanging off the bike. I put the toe of my foot on the very edge of the footpeg and have less than half a 'cheek' on the seat. If it feels ridiculous, you're there! Do a search and you will find oodles of threads on it as well.

dont do what hopper does you'll fall off:) seriously, hang off like an idiot and tuck your foot in by your heal plate, when you knee touches down you can perfect your style from there.
