My mate has just had another Xbox 360 die on him, I think this is the second one.
Anyway, I read around the reliability issues, and now I'm put off buying one. Does anyone have one on here? Have you had any faliures of the console? It seems the biggest problem is the amount of heat produced, which leads to the faliure of the console

My mate's console died too and he's had to send it off for repairs... hmm...

Yea...my brothers 360 hasnt had any problems yet, but then he only has it on for a few hours a night and its quite ventelated.
I guess if i brought one i could rig up a simple cooling system
I'm still put off...which is a shame, because i'd love to run about on rainbow six with my brother and our mate when im away at uni :king:

My old xbox has a fully functional drive that will not play games on a certain type of disc or something, nothing broken, just a rubbish disc drive (they wanted £100+ to fix since the warranty had just expired).
Not got a 360, came close, then all these failures came along and I was reminded of my old xbox's quality. My mate has just had his second 360 die on him. Looks like they thought it unfair to steal a march on the PS3, so they're doing their best to even things out.

Its not all doom and gloom. Yes they suffer from dodgy chinese manufacture.....but customer service is good. I've had 3 now.....all repaired without a hitch.
Just make sure it breaks in warranty....which it probably will anyway.
Stuffed if you bought a second hand one though ain't ya.
Mine is all fine and dandy, had it for seven months.
only problem i have is the disc of forza two seems to have gone boom.
doesnt let me use two of the racetracks. rather odd.

Thats probably the "XBOX360 Scratches Disks" bug then
had mine for a few months now and have had no issues at all

I am on Xbox number 3.
I had mine from day one and it lasted a year. They fixed it but that only lasted one month, then then replaced it and #3 is all good.
It's no biggie tbh, it just got way more media coverage than any other console launch teething phase. I remember when I had the 1st Playstation (which cost £400 in 1995 or 1996 btw), I had about 7 of them due to the famous "disc read" error. I also had about 3 Sega Saturns when they were about. Microsoft are doing a stirling job with fixing all hte issues under warranty, they have extended the warranty on all new and replacement consoles to 2 years. All the new batch of consoles seem to be fine. An amazing console with heaps of fantastic games and Halo 3 is almost upon us. You'd be daft no to buy one tbh.

We've had one fail, replaced under warrentee. I actually had more fun playing a mates Wii with its cheesy graphics than the 360 to be honest
My sons packed up last week something to do with the internal memory so I've had to send it back to microsoft, It's only 8 months old:rolleyes:
Amazing console, I can thoroughly recommend one to anyone who wants one - a million times better than the Wii which I got bored of after a weekend. Never tried the PS3 but theres far more better titles on the XBOX anyway and coupled with Live it wipes the floor with it. Still on my first 'box but about 10 months old this one I've got now.
Is that right about the 2 year warranty??

No it's better than that, it's actually a 3 year warranty.

That's nice for you all but I've got a second hand one so I have no warrenty, so if it goes pop I'm stuffed.

Interesting occurence - my mate, whos xbox died the toherday, wrapped it in a towel, tured it on for a bit, then turned it off. Let it cool down, and when he turned it on again, it worked.
Must have allowed sufficient heat to build up for the solder in the curcuits to melt and rejoin? If indeed his problem was due to the solder cracking...

Im on my second (not through failure) and both have been fine.
If you are putting off getting one, MS are releasing a new one around november time that has a new chipset in and HDMI output to replace the current model of premuiums..
So once the stock of these has sold through we should be getting these which are supposed to be more reliable!

Yes I've seen some stuff about that on the web... some people think its all lies, but if the box is fooked, then what have you got to loose. And its all to do with cheap/bad solder.

ive had mine for 8 months and its still perfect, just keep them really well ventilated and give them a hour or so break if your making a hardcore night of it.
i spent 2 weeks or so near enough solid with my mate from uni, doing game after game, gears of war on insane in 3 days, rainbow 6 and vegas in 2 days each on realistic etc. near enough constant playing needs a lot of ventilation, and turn it off every 5 or 6 hours to let it cool down properly.
I have two. One I've had for about 18 months, and the other for about 4 months. Neither give me any issues. Both are well ventilated and sat on glass surfaces.
PS3 is overpriced due to the blu-ray drive - and it looks like blu-ray is going to be another betamax.
Why 2? System-link games over the home LAN! :)

Yep, agreed, PS3 is a let down. I prefer the 360, the online community, the games, everything
I think i'll get one, first student loan installment next week....
