The big cuddly Italian who in my opinion did more to popularise opera over the last 30 years than anyone, has passed away at the age of 71.

Anyone who watchged opening sequences to programmes for Italia 90 could only be impressed by his version of the above mentioned aria.

I thought he was great despite that at the time of the World Cup mentioned, the success of the sales of his Nessun Dorma single, kept my nephew *pegged at Nš2 in the UK charts.

*(Hear the drummer get wicked - Chad Jackson.)

He will be missed, not only for his remarkable voice, but his charity work also.

At least he can now go a teach the angels a thing or two about singing.... RIP big guy...

What a voice he had, quite possibly the very best since recording became possible.

RIP

I'm shocked, heard he was ill, but that's such a shame. RIP

I agree - he had a fantastic voice and was IMHO the best of the lot of them.

However dare I say that I got fed up with tenors crooning arias and I think the world went a bit overboard with them. Wifey likes Patrizio Buanne...
