It's really simply but has thrown everyone in the office. It's not a trick question and no lateral thinking is required.

Do not google, wiki, dive for your loose change or grab your purse as you'll spoil the fun.

OK, so here goes.

I act for a client who built a fish and chip shop in 1972. He was so impressed with the new 50 pence piece that he built his new shop in the shape of that coin.

First question is, how many sides does a 50 pence piece have (NO LOOKING!!)

Second question, what is the name for an object with that number of sides/edges?

i think it's 20p that are 7 - heptagon

edit: now i look, i see the folly of my haste...

9 - I think (something to do with the number of members of the EU)

And a 9-sided thing is called a 50p piece

We have a winner.

Hovis is right - a 50p piece has seven sides. And Lone Wolf was correct in identifying the shape as a heptagon.

Told you it was easy peasy.

Name of the chippy is 'Len's Plaice' - groan....

OK I can't remember the correct answer, but when the shop was built in 1972 the then new 50p coin was different to the current 7 sider.Maybe it had six sides?

Smartarse!

It's got seven sides. The other two aren't sides, they're rthe obverse and the converse.

And the chip shop has a floor and a pointy roof so it must have 15 sides:confused:
