Just bought an 01 SV and the chain guard was removed by the previous owner. Should I replace it or... ?

Yes, put a chain gaurd on. Aside from stopping chain lube etc being flicked up, if the chain ever broke (a big if) then it would save your foot somewhat

Its also an MOT failure.

Looks like the previous owner stripped a hugger (rear mudguard) off before selling.

Where are you?

I have a number of chain guards in my garage - I think at least one is a curvy one, tho I think they are the same between both models, or at least inter-changeable.

Thanks guys for the tips. And SoulKiss, thanks for the offer, but I am in the States--I will try to scrounge one up on Ebay...

Asking on SV Rider might get you a result, that's a more US based forum... There's always people scrapping bikes, or fitting huggers or blingy parts.
