If you havent seen it, here's the link http://www.aglassandahalffullproductions.com/?CMP=RAC-cadhpg
And this is what Cadburys have to say about why they did it.
"Well it just seemed like the right thing to do. There's no clever science behind it - it's just an effort to make you smile, in exactly the same way Cadbury Dairy Milk does. And that's what we aim to continue to do; simply make you smile. So if a drumming gorilla's not enough, wait until you see what else we have up our sleeves."

Awesome reverb on the snare. Gotta love 1980's drum kit setups

And for all the stick he gets, I forgot how much I liked Phil Collins and Genesis. May have to dig that out tomorrow for the trip to work.

I have seen the advert and it rocks! It's just a shame it wasn't a take on the Genesis I Can't Dance video!
It's a gorilla - playing the drums... the 'why' is not important. 8)

I nearly wet myself laughing at that. Genius advert.
*Switches tv on and watches until advert comes on*
Its pure class. i love it
I saw it on Saturday, woke up from a cider fuelled frenzy and saw a gorilla playing the drums...thought i was hallucinating
Can't work out for the life of me what it's got to do with a bar of chocolate, but like fizz said, pure genius =D>

It saying Phil Collins is an ape.
That a bar of chocolate is for monkeys.
That gorillas can play drums.
That most apes prefer Genesis over other British Prog Rock.
And that advertising executives should stop snorting cocaine and get real jobs instead.
I don't understand it either... I also fail on the finding 'an ape playing the drums funny' thing...
It's one ad that's a total loss on me...

Its VERY simple.
Adverts are not necessarily about promoting the features of the product. After all who DOESNT know what Dairy Milk is?
Many ads are now about getting you talking about the ad and then mentioning the product to your mates.
Near-subliminal advertising via word of mouth
Genius.
Gorilla (sic) tactics?
I'll get my coat!:smt088

im gonna bore you stupid now but you get that sound by putting reverb on the snare & toms then put through a sound gate which cuts off the reverb tails, makes the kit sound massive i still use it today

exactly right. it gets you talking on the subject, then subliminaly you might think...oooo i could do with a bar of chocolate. what you DONT want to dont want to do is make a rubbish advert. although it can sometimes work in the same way. you talk about it then think..actually i could do with that. picking a nice relaxing, but "gets your attention" song works well too. and also makes you laugh. had to study a load of this last year on our coarse. BORING, but very interesting at the same time.
Well I think it's great! It got me talking about it and I don't often talk about chocolate.

Cool advert :-)
well, from an advertising point of view, its done its job, everyone is talking about the advert, and they mention cadburys when they talk about it. . . therefore promoting product awareness.

True, but I still won't buy manky Cadbury's chocolate, just because of a cool ad. Give me Galaxy every time:D
