Which tyre (hopefully not an old question)

Hello everyone,
I am new to the forum and am looking for some assistance with tyre choice. My other half has just bought an '04 pointy, it has its original D220's, the front is in great shape but the rear is squared off and on the markers in the middle. I want to change the rear tyre only and simply replace the D220 for a D220 (the o.h. does not push her bikes very hard and is a fair weather rider). You would think I have answered my own question but I went to order the new tyre tonight and find that there are 3 options for this tyre, a D220 ST, a D220 ST J, and a D220 ST L - they can be found here:

The J and L tyres are noted as special tyres and so my guess is that I need the standard tyre but don't want to make the wrong choice, please help.

Sorry, I can't help you with the code there, but FWIW I'd ditch the pair and buy myself a nice new pair of Z6's or Pilots. ESPECIALLY if your not riding it regularly and don't push it, as maybe you will need the extra grip when that 'oh sh*t' moment eventually comes.

Thanks for that, I do understand where you are coming from but she has only just bought the bike and I need to keep the initial costs down as I am also buying some crash bobbins, datatag & tank protector, as well as new leathers & lid!
Guess I'll have to change both tyres in the spring of next year and offload the old rubber on eBay.

For the record, the D220 ST 'L' tyre is the correct OEM fitment and is still fitted to showroom models today, the 'L' tyre being tweaked specifically for the SV.

D220's are more than adequate, there is no such thing as a bad tyre these days.

If it was me, I would get a new set of something else, and I did, Pilot Road 2's to be exact, but I could afford that.

It was listed in the thread that there is a budget to be considered.

If its a choice of totally new rubber or a cheaper lid, or no crash bungs, I would get the D220.

I dont think I would want to mix a used D220 front with a PR2 rear, so I wouldnt say spend a few extra quid on a PR2/Z6 or whatever, but then there are those that will say that would be fine.

The fact that the new tyre is not squared off will make the most difference to be honest, well in my opinion anyway
