Can anyone recommend a good web site for tyres? I have around 500 miles left in mine now and will need some soon.

Do you intend to fit them yourself, if so the following does not apply.

I like to patronise the small independent repair and accessory shops (eg Spannerman). They usually survive on very small profit margins. I like to get them to order my tyres and fit them. I don’t have to be home for the postman or have to go to the sorting office to collect. The local shop makes a small profit and I don’t get any hassle.

Requests to fit tyres purchased via mail order are becoming more common, as companies that buy in bulk sell to the public at ludicrously small margins.
It can cause quite an argument, as quite rightly I expect to earn the same piffling amount fitting a pair of tyres that the customer supplies, as I would if I had supplied them. After all, I'm still doing the same amount of work aren't I?

Often any savings made on mail order tyres are reduced when the carriage is taken into account, & another fact worth mentioning is that if the tyres you have purchased are defective in some way i.e. a leaking bead etc. Most of us in the trade will charge you again to change it. Whereas I will do it FOC on a tyre (or anything else for that matter) that I have supplied. Also you won't have to pay carriage to send it back.

I have seen many a tyre &/or wheel ruined by DIY'ers trying to fit tyres with levers. Tyre fitting these days really should be left to the professionals. (& some of those can still bugger it up):D.

I gross around £32 inc VAT on a pairs of tyres fitted to the bike, when I supply them to forum members. Out of that There's around £2.50 to dispose of your old ones, & on average it'll be over a £1 for new valves, wheel weights, & grease etc. Most people pay with a card, so there's another few bob in bank charges.
& let's not forget wear & tear on my £4000 worth of tyre machine & dynamic balancer. Which leaves, not a great profit as I'm sure you'd agree....Also you Beggars all seem to drink Tea & Coffee like it's going out of fashion.:D
