I was watching this auction which finished today, was going to have a punt, but it was too high when I looked.

Anyway, the same seller has this as a buy it now in his ebay shop, so I did

Why is it that when I try to sell something on ebay it seems so painful

It's a standard tactic for many eBay shops - espescially if it's a cheap listing day like it was last Thursday.

Slap a couple of stock items up for auction cheaper than store price - if you're lucky it'll go for more and even if not it puts your stuff on the search results, so guiding people to look in store...

... just like you did.

It used to be that store inventory items would show up at the end of the auction items on searches - but that generally doesn't happen any more (only when there are very few auction results). you have to specifically search in 'stores' or use the tiny link to the side of regular search results...
... as such a store's exposure had dropped considerably, so 'advertising' like this with leading auctions is being used more and more.

I myself do it, but only when there's a cheap listing day. ;)
