I'm a teensy bit claustrophobic so a tad nervous :(

Anyone had one? They sent a little leaflet with the appointment, stuff about don't wear metal jewelery - umm, are tooth fillings magnetic? What about buttons on me flys? Or will I have to strip off (in which case I'm digging out the calvin kleins - you never know!). It's apparently three years worth of background radiation, add that to the two x-rays I've already had in the last couple of months and I'm gonna start glowing in the dark :(

MiniMatt - I had an MRI scan last year and also suffer a bit in enclosed spaces. I think they are basically the same enclosure.

I managed to stare at the ceiling with my head tilted slightly back which made me feel much better and also they palyed music through some headphones, which sort of made me fell seperated from what was going on and helped massively.

I wore tracksuits bottom and that was fine, although I too had a clean pair of Calvins on.

They also allowed me to go in backwards as it was my back that was being scanned, so I went in feet first, which also helped.

You'll be fine.

You'll have to strip off and put on a hospital gown....and very sexy they are too! It depends on what you're having scanned, if it's lower limbs your head probably won't even go inside the tube (mine didn't). Chill, it's not that bad :D

It's me noggin being scanned, you never know, they may find it's empty in there. I'll do my best to make a hospital gown look good :D

Thanks for the hugs :D

I only had my knee scanned (think it was MRI) but they made me strip down and put a gown on.......maybe the nurses had a thing for me ;)

Actually thinking back I did have to wear a gown, but I was under the impression that tracksuit bottoms would be fine...........perhaps they should've scanned my noggin for signs of anything.

They did say something about tattoo's could get hot.........or similar.

I had an MRI scan. Had to remove everything (including bits of metal) and wear one of those hospital gowns. The scan itself was very relaxing and they were playing classic rock inside the scanner, including Hawkwind! I guess that they looked at me, thought 'bloody long-haired hippy' and decided that's what I'd enjoy.

I had an hour long MRI scan which wasn't very pleasant, but that was for medical research. My little normal MRI scan was dead easy, just a big drone and so long as you stare at the mirror you can pretend you are not in the tube at all. Just don't overthink it too much.

Had a couple of MRIs done on my knee, so again, no head inside...

... which was dissapointing as I think they are awesomely cool things. Big clunking beggars that look like a massive polo mint.

They are generally white and well lit so it's about as light and airy as your going to get - definately not descending into a dark little hole. Take some music, CD or something with you as you can sometimes request your own stuff.

To be honest, personally, I'd love to have a scan of my head - just curious. ;)

Don't be such a wuss
There was a TV program last month about vets, and they had to put an anteater with a bad back in one of those machines for a scan. Turns out it had a collapsed disc or something similar. Made me laugh as the guy using the machine had to click on an outline of a human to specify the back area - it obviously wasn't designed for anteaters

I've taken my son for a few MRI scans. I'm sure he's never had to get undressed. They should give you earplugs, but you might want to take your favourite ones in case they forget/you don't like them.
:grouphug:
nothing to worry about - apart from the result that is! Good luck with that!

I had an MRI earlier this year on my neck, and didn't need to take off my vest top or trousers.

Not the most fun experience, but not as bad as I thought it would be.

i had a MRI on my head and neck couple of months back.

CT scanners are identical they just produce different images. im claustrafobic too but its ok cos its only yur head thats in the scanner so you can see outside which helps. theyre quite noisey though

Bless, thanks folks :D Just got back, still alive so it can't be all that bad.

Parked up next to a blue SV thou and wandered through the maze to find radiology. The receptionist at radiology said "ooh, is it raining out, we're getting a lot of bikers in today" :(

Despite wearing my bestest pulling pants, the radiologist was a bloke, and I don't think he was that way inclined (and I don't think I am either). Also, didn't have to take my kit off at all.

Was kinda expecting a tunnel built into a wall but as folks have said, it's just a big polo mint in the middle of the room probably only about three feet deep. There's also a good 10-12 inches either side and above your head so it doesn't feel cramped at all. In and out a few times as big whirry things do their big whirry stuff over about five minutes. Then injections to make my blood glow green or something and back in for another five minutes.

Came out with a cracking headache, but as that's one of my symptoms anway I'm not sure if there's a connection. But all in all, not half as terrifying as I feared :D Fingers crossed the results are OK, didn't get to see the piccys but the radiologist confirmed I was free of wood worm :D
