why did you buy the sv, was it because that it is a lower priced bike or for the looks , i brought mine because i love the look , naked blue k6, im not keen on the curvy . i could have brought any thing up to £5500 but it was the naked sv for me.

I bought it after a 3500 mile test ride. And that's the truth.

Best bike to have restricted. Cheap. V-twin (overrun noise wholly justifies my purchase alone). Carries two in some sort of comfort.

I bought my SV because I had heard it was a good first big bike to get and was not so full on as the sportsbikes like the GSXR/CBR/R6. I found this forum and you guys like them so much, gave balanced reviews and at a price I could afford. Before getting mine on 1st Sept I had never rode an SV before....the largest bike I rode was the DAS Kwak ER5

My brother had a curvy and I loved the V-TWIN sound track that came with it, thought it would help get me in with the ladies as well ;)

Did DAS and got myself a pointy, loving every min of it and loving that V-TWIN roar.

ps - it didn't help get the ladies buy the way

sorry had too. :silent: the voices made me.

I was gonna buy a GSX750R but my dad said that I would probably kill myself sooner on a gixxer than on a SV...
I'm still here... so it was the best choice.
and what a cracking bike it is too.

I wanted a monster but the SV was better, cheaper, more reliable and generally better value for money and easier to get hold of.

Cos it was lightweight.

But then bought a Speed Triple, so what do I know??:smt102

Good reviews, not too intimidating but enough of a hoot when you give it the berries. Cheap too.

Thought about a CBR/R6/ZX6/GSXR 600 but reckoned I'd kill myself too soon. As it happens everyone I speak too reckons I've still started off with a bike that's too big, but I just try to ignore them cos I know better.

wanted one for a while and 0% twisted it in my favour at 4k. Allowed me to get out of a 106 diesel and a KR1s mess onto something reliable and fast.

Well having sold my ZX6R Ninja days bfore I moved to the land of sangria, I was in truth a little nervous about buying a bike here in Spain. That led me to err on what I saw as the side of caution and not dive straight in and buy another sports bike.

I bought a brand new K3 in silver,(the previous yeras model as I fancied the colour) I had never owned a v twin before. The SV opened up a whole new world to me and really got my juices flowing again. I loved the SV so much that after getting rid of my ring rust and finding a whole bunch of new biking pals I decided that there was a lot more frisky biking left in me and another V twin was what I wanted.

I chose the Ducati 749S as what I saw as a sensible choice and enjoyed even more of the V twin experience. I actually loved that bike more than any I have ever owned.

My ideal before I really do need to calm it down a little is a sporty V4, But I have a lot to thank my SV and the folks from this forum for allowing me to savour what a V twin motor offers. I would do the same all over again.

At the time I couldn't afford to buy and insure a 600 sports bike.

The SV was sporty, cheap to buy, cheap to insure and had good reviews.

1. 12 years without a bike, no claims expired, SV650s is a group 10
2. I like twin's
3. Clip on's - not sit up and beg, "sports tourer"
4. Nicer than the alternatives, Bandit, CBF600, etc

I love the sound, and more importantly I can afford the insurance on it.

I needed a cheap (to buy and insure) reliable bike that would be fun but not overwhelming as a first road bike. I also wanted something with character, so a Blandit was out.

I initially dismissed the SV as a "lumpy twin" (blasphemy I know, I knew nothing about them at the time). When I started seriously looking into different bikes, the SV kept being recommended, so I reconsidered it, joined this forum, bought my SV and haven't looked back.

I love the sound too and the low down grunt, yet being able to wring it's neck up to the redline at 10'500rpm.

A mate of mine keeps telling me I should have gone for a SS600, but I haven't had a chance to get him out on the road on his GSXR yet. I think he may be quite suprised. Hopefully not quite as much as the group of Sportsbike riders were last weekend in Wales (those who were there know what I mean), but enough to change his mind.

I love V-Twins,
Cheap(ish) insurance.... well as cheap as it got for an 18 year old,
Easily Restricted,
Love the looks, (Pointy K4S only ;-) )
The noise!

Always been into v twins (owned Moto Guzzis) loved the looks of the Naked SV in 99 when it came out, but couldn't afford one till this year, so got myself a yellow 99 naked (still the best colour :)). Done over 6000 miles since March & still love the 16 mile ride to work every day

Didn't have the confidence to buy a second hand bike, so with a budget of £4k, the SV was by far the best option.

If I'm honest and the budget was higher I'd have bought something else at the time (probably a sports 600) but now I reckon my next bike would have to be another V-Twin.

It was cheaper then the CBR I was looking at, though I thought it was ugly. Still do, its that half fairing I don't like.

Didnt do my scooter mainly for the reason i didnt want the chav brand on my head, went straight onto an SV last November and was the best decision of my riding career yet. Reason for having it, looks, insurance cheap, V-Twin rumble and still had summit when it was restricted.

Wanted to upgrade from the ER5 I used for commuting. Needed a practical commuter with the ability to go out for a 'hoon' at evenings/weekends. Loved the V-twin sound and the looks - and the fact it would fit through the back gate!

Bought it cos it fits in my shed and seems to haul 17 stone of me around quite well, although I'm too tall for it and the riding positions hurts after a while. I also love the fact that it's a budget bike and you have an excuse for throwing money at it to make it even better!

Bought mine as she was v cheap, loved the look of them and shes ideal for what i wanted/needed her for.
She will be getting semi-retired next year though, sadly i'll downgrade her to my winter hack but doesnt mean i'll love her any less :)

They were just out and I loved the look. my neighbour had a firestorm and I loved how he set off car alarms when he started bike in the morning. wanted a bike that made that noise unfortunately SV never quite managed it. it was also cheaper to insure than the pocket rockets I was looking at. it was a bit of a struggle to reach the ground on sv. now have a bike at sets off car alarms when i rev it and I can reach the ground and it was cheap to insure. my sv is still in the family though.

I went into a bike shop in September 2003 wanting to buy a new
Bandit but saw new faired SV's. I was impressed by the

1) looks (no offence, curvy owners) and

2) price - it was a promotion, £3995 including free home delivery.

Put down a deposit straight away.

Brand new 07 plate SV650 K6 Sport on 0% finance for £4099.

Deals don't get much better than that. How could I consider the second hand bike with unknown history for up to 2 1/2 grand cash?

Because I had a picture of one on my wall at uni when they first came out. After only recently passing the test and getting a GS500, to me the SV was the DREAM bike for me to buy once i graduated as I didnt have the experience to hit something bigger/more powerful. Looked awesome, sounded great and once I'd taken the test ride, i was totally sold! Ive had the bike about 2 1/2 years now and done about 10k on it and I can still walk into the garage on the morning and take an admiring look at it. I have looked at other bikes but the SV is such suited for the road for me, I dont really really want to change. I'd rather complement it with a new partner in the garage!

Right OK! Now I understand why my eardrums burst when you started up at the petrol station in Moffat!:D

I used to see a copper pointy ride past my bus stop every day, while my terrible 125 was broken down. It was the brake lights I noticed really. Then I found out what model it was, and did some reading up, and found out that there was a nicer, older version. I was also looking at a Hornet, so I joined this place and the Hornet's Nest. Here seemed friendlier ;)

So then, I started looking locally, I didn't have my full licence so I was just pricing the market... Then a mate of mine found an ad in the local paper for a black one, £2600 it was. I went over to have a haggle and a bit of a practice effort at bike buying, and accidentally bought it. No discount, no extras, no nothing, I just said "I want that one. Have some money". Never even test rode it, since I'd not got my licence! THey'd cunningly parked it under the spots in a dark parking garage, and it looked like something straight out of an advert.

All in all, a terrible way to buy a bike. But it seems to have worked out alright :)

I bought the SV for the following reasons:

1/ It's a small/light bike, a bulky/heavy IL4 was a bit intimidating for a new rider like myself, believe it or not I was slightly intimidated by the SV when I first got it, now it seems tiny.

2/ It was all I could afford to buy and insure at the time of passing my DAS.

3/ The pointys FAR superior styling over the curvy :smt045

I thought it was about time I got another bike after I got fed up of T140 basket case under the stairs just gathering dust.

I wanted a twin, decent capacity, preferably V twin, decent power but not a hyper-mad kazillion rpm rocket ship, had to be light cuz of the steps, grass bank and ramps that lead to the back yard - didn't fancy a hernia.

Checked out Bike mag to see what was about and blow me, Suzuki were flogging my ideal bike!

I was thinking that one of them there Street Triples would be mine very soon but to be honest, I still get too much fun with the SV to consider hacking myself up with debt again - a couple of months worth of Speed Triple instalments splashed out on the suspension will be money far better spent:D

My main reasons for wanting an SV were that I read so many good reviews about them being the "ideal first big/sports bike".

They are cheap (enough), cheap insurance group (group 10/11) ... my other option was a CBR600 (ins grp 14)! The SV's are lightweight, and have good handling for a beginner (and also more experienced riders too apparently).

Went for pointy over curvy purely for style :)

Started looking as soon as I passed test and just happened to see a nice example of a K3 ... so took it out for a test ride and bought it the second I got back :D

Needed a Bike - Wanted a Vtwin - that wasn't too heavy - could commute practically - & do longer distance trips -

There can be only one....

My only regret is buying such a shiny one -
