Went on the Essex Air Ambulance run today and it went swimmingly on the whole :)
Shame I was fasting and didn't get to try out any culinary treats once I got to Harwich  :)
But, on a sadder note, it seems that there are absolutely NO asian bike riders whatsoever, especially in and around Essex!!! I saw one asian face in total today, and she wasn't even a rider but a pillion. What's going on here? Surely you exist?!?!? The guys and gals I met today were tremendously friendly and great to be around, a really good family day out you coukd say. All that waving to passers by was making my left arm go weak!
p.s - To the Essex lounge; the next ride-out, i'm there..........

so start a trend, I don't beleive it's exclusive (apart from if we make it that way), it's about bikes, be it male/ female, black white green or blue makes no difference (although reguardless of colour we all reserve the right to take the p*ss every now and then ;), still glad you enjoyed the day.
Cheers Mark.

I have never got this argument. I don't really see the relevance of someones skin colour, with regards to biking!
You said you had a great time so whats the problem?
I personally know 2 asian blokes that ride, but for me their ethnicity isn't relevant.
There was a big long post about this a couple of weeks ago. I have seen the odd one or two ethnic riders at local bike pubs. It seems their interest in bikes is limited though.
I'm sure the last topic spiraled out of control and ended up about racial dicriminations ********. Hopefully this wont go the same way.

We had this discussion recently didnt we?
Basically us pasty white guys are as puzzled over it as you are.
As Mark (Rictus) said, we dont care what colour, religion or gender you are, turn up and join in.
If you turn up and feel left out, just talk louder, many of the people at meets know each other, and we can be guilty of getting carried away with catching up with each other that when you first turn up you can feel somewhat ignored.
Its not intentional, just get in there, offer to get the coffees in, or if someone is offering to get you one, accept it, its a good ice-breaker.
As it is, probably the most "exoticly ethnic" guy we have turn up at the Soho Massive is Spiderman - and once you meet him you will realise how disapointing that is for us all.
Personally the more diversity, the more view points, the more interesting conversations are.

Hey, im only pasty white since they took away the CRT's!
Seriously, we dont care, if your green or blue (well, if your blue something might be wrong so we would care). But its all good.
My group at work, my manager is of Pakistani origin, I have an Italian working with me, another British guy, a south African, even an Ethiopian! It really isn't a big deal. It all adds to the fun, different backgrounds, you get different reactions to things with adds to the ammusement!

It's because Asians /Ethnic monorities tend to have less natural ability when it comes to learning how to ride motorbikes...... compared to Caucasians for an example  :p ;)

I wouldn't go that far! I've got to go there on wednesday/thursday with work! There causing me no end of problems, including missing my birthday! :(
Although i dont blame you ;)
Oh, coming to sunny old Portugal, nice. Where exactly?

Really?:smt103 I suppose I should stop calling him "whitey" then...#-o
Seriously though, there are plenty of asian blokes who crawl out with their bikes round here on a wednesday night...they just gotta be back home before their wives catch them:mrgreen: a bit like me really:smt025

See, what it is, is that they don't have motorbikes where they come from. Most of these effnics probably think they work by the white man's magic, or some such tribal juju. Never even seen a car till they were 21, most likely. Not that I've got anything against them, mind.

Lucky strike, my uni has a strong asian community - but most of them have cars (golfs, it seems). One guy has an R1, and thats it.
I gues it just isnt part of that culture, its more of a statement to have a modded car?
R1 dude gets my nod though. Geezers incars just get my avoidence and a midle finger for their crap driving (i dont discriminate, people of all colours, cultures and whatever get the middle finger for endangering me ;))

I totally agree with all of you, skin colour does not and should not be considered in the slightest when partaking in such activities, it's just a shame that's all. It's just that you would have thought that asians would love biking when you look at the sheer number of motorcycles/scooters back in the mother country!!
Anyway, the point is that I thoroughly enjoyed myself and I now have a glimpse of what the biking community has to offer, and I shall be taking full advantage from now on.
Long live the SV! (well, until I purchase my SP-2 at least :) )
we all live on the same planet...what unites us on here is we like BIKES!
others have loadsa KIDS, or their religion they swear by, others knitting, bingo...GOD HELP THEM:smt046
we like BENDS (not under water)
there is a place on this planet for all of us, and it USED to be only the church and the pub (or similar) that peeps had gone to, now we do what we like, and we like BIKES:cheers: and curvy bends:cheers:
we are all human and nobody is better then anyone else. there are Wane Kerrs in all creeds:smt014

Cheers. Me disapointing. Just ask the girlies i know. They'll all confirm how true that is
I think i understand where LuckyStrike is coming from on this and its just one of those things that you only notice when its only you.
Ive been to gigs at Brixton academy back in the day and noticed i was the only "white" guy there. OK i'm not white but i soooo was that night, lol.
You just kinda notice it is all and sometimes you wonder why its this way.
Anyways i like being the "unusual" one in a crowd, it works for me :D

A mate of mine rides a GS500 (we'll forgive him that) up in Leicester and put forth his explanation a while back. His parents fled here from Uganda when Idi Amin went all genocidal. When his parents arrived they were made depressingly aware of how different they were, the seventies was still not exactly racially tolerant; as such they did everything they could to "fit in" and not look different. Now, motorbikes here are kind of a rebels choice, they mark you out as different from the norm. So his parents generation avoided bikes as they didn't want to be different, they wanted to go unnoticed in this "nation of shopkeepers" so they bought their cornershop and kept their heads down. My mate on the other hand, he was born and raised in a slightly (unfortunately only slightly) more enlightened society and as such sees no problem with being "the rebel" on a bike, even if it is a rusty GS500 :D

Lol - you know where I was coming from - top bloike you, 1st person to speak to me at my 1st soho meet, also the offer to take me out when I first got my license (but didnt cos I was rubbish on my test)
Besides CoolGirl would have been a better example, but if I had gotten it wrong, well I figure she can hit harder than you :P
I grew up in Aberdeen, where there were Indian (all labelled as Paki's) and Chinese. Thats it, and they either ran a corner shop, or a resturaunt - and I am not being funny when I say that.
I was 21 before I met my first African/Carribean guy - and he was up from London doing a refub and refit on the office I worked in.
For me its awkward being around people of different ethnic background - I always feel I have to be a little careful about not coming across as racist, but for the main part all I have is stereotypes to work from as I grew up in a mostly (almost exclusively) white situation.
But as has been said - we all bleed red.
I am just waiting till the Martians invade, that will unite the peoples of the world, white, black, brown and yellow behind the rallying call of
"Kill the Green B*&^%$ds"
"Kill the Green B*&^%$ds"

I was thinking more about land ones, with legs:D
But, on a sadder note, it seems that there are absolutely NO asian bike riders whatsoever
Maybe they're just not very good ;o)
Veggie bikers? Is that not taking the minority thing a bit too far????
I dont care what race people are, it all depends on who they are as a person.
remember if u see a biker has crashed, and you go running to help........
do you check their SKIN colour ?
But, on a sadder note, it seems that there are absolutely NO asian bike riders whatsoever, .: why did this make you sad? as long as everyone made you welcome
All that waving to passers by was making my left arm go weak!

A good friend of mine is Asian, she rides and lives in Bracknell. She said the same thing as yourself that she`s met very few Asian riders about. She comes up against constant criticism amongst her own race for riding and being that "little bit different"

Right on.....Its the the bikes that bring us lot togther, I enjoy meeting loads of different people part of the fun!
I think the goverment is partly to blame for all this as well, you should see the sort of paper work I have file on this, end of day were all the same, its the person that counts!

I think perhapse because they have come from a country with lots of bikes and come to a country with lots of cars which are seen as for someone better off, i think this is a throw back to the days when cars were for the rich. So some people see a bike as a second class vehicle.
Also asian society seems to put a lot of emphesis on what other families think to them, so i guess playing about on a bike kinda looks bad. :smt103 So there is a lot of pressure for the younger people who might want to get a bike not to. So they dont, they get a car like normal...
Guess you luckystrike could be what is called a British Asian... Who knows?
Whatever it might be, it is a shame more poeple of any race dont get into bikes imo!

As Tonyk said, us bikers are a special breed! As I said, it really doesn't bother me in the slightest that there are so few Asian bikers, but hey, that's life and I must get on with it! :) Anyways, my uncle just bought a nearly new R6 today, and my cousin should be taking his DAS early next year.
p.s - Hovis, of course it was the waving that made it hurt :smt045
