because knowing me i'll crash it and just generally you get abit more and its worth to me paying the extra for extra cover

How much is your bike worth mate?

Bear in mind that you're only really going to claim if the damage is very bad / a write off because if you claim in the first year, the following year you'll probably not be able to afford the insurance at all.. If your bike isn't worth more than 2-3grand I'd go TPFT and get some crash bungs.

Its worth 2450 its the 1999 curvey shape on a v plate done 15,000 miles

After the horror stories I've read on here about bennetts then I'd be staying away from them.

I insured my SV with Devitt when I started riding and then moved it to ebike as they gave me a better deal.

www.ebikeinsurance.co.uk (http://www.ebikeinsurance.co.uk) you should be able to get an online quote from them and they chuck in free breakdown cover as well which could be useful.

Go to www.thebikeinsurer.co.uk (http://www.thebikeinsurer.co.uk)

One of those quote engines. I now believe that Confused do bike quotes. It does a fair few companies. Then call the ones that it wont contact and that should cover just about everyone.

Try churchill

I had nothing but excellent service form bennets in my 1st year, and that included a claim. Still, things change. As for a bike of that age being worth that much...i very much doubt it. What you pay is not always waht its worth sorry to say.

Also try www.thebikeinsurer.co.uk (http://www.thebikeinsurer.co.uk)

Try it online then ring them up, I did this and save £100 on the online qoute.

£365 fully comp for a new at the time K6 sport with no security on it and parked in a garage. I had no previous bike experience and had never held bike insurance.

Granted I'm abit older than you at 22 but it was the best qoute out of ringing 15+ insurers and apparently a fair bit better than people of a similar description.

Give them a go anyway.

Personally, I wouldn't bother myself. I would:

- spend a hundred quid on crash bungs etc
- get some advanced lessons
- make sure your tyres are always in good nick
- try to be careful ;)

You'll probably drop your first bike, most people do. Most people don't do it at speed though, it's usually a slow speed drop and crash bungs are normally enough.

Whatever you do, take it easy and make sure you wear good kit ;)

True may have to think about it now, but ive just joined ROSPA and they do advance training and my bikes getting a brand new pair of Bridgestones for it so hopefully i'l be alright! Just now starting to regret getting it now a bit becuase of the insrurance lol

The first years always the worst for insurance, you'll have to take the hit whenever you start your insurance the earlier the better IMHO, because in a couple of years time should you want to hop up to a bigger bike you'll have a couple of years riding and No claims bonus so that next bike and even next years insurance is going to be considerably cheaper.

Yeh true spose just seemed the logical way of doing it because 125s are expensive and id get rid of that after bout 8-9 months and want more power anyway n i'l be looking to keep this for about 4-5 years tops! Yeh im down south, dorset

dont want to be rude mate but I think thats a being a bit generous. I got 2190 when I wrote off my 99 sv with 17k on the clock from my insurance company and that was after arguing for that their first valuation was too low. (also note the accident wasnt my fault) Parkers (http://www.parkers.co.uk/motorbikes/used-prices/) is a good place to get an estimate as to what your bike is worth.

I would say first year, dont bother with fully comp, just get tpf&t. That way youre covered if it gets nicked and reallistically if you bin it its going to be a lot cheeper in the long run if you repair it yourself and dont claim as otherwise your insurance premium is going to go through the room, imagine being 18 with a no noclaims and an accident under your belt, insurance on that is going to be stupid.

As for cheep ebike seem to be pretty good if you just want it simple, i use carole nash but only because they have demonstrated superb customer service and im happy to pay the extra for that piece of mind given i now dont have to pay through the teeth for my insurance.

It may also be a good idea to see if you can get on an advanced riding course with the money you save from not getting fully comp as that will make your insurance cheeper to some degree even if it doesnt make you a better rider (which it should do). Also its easier to learn how to do it the right way when you start rather than having to unlearn the way your already do something inorder to learn how to do it properly.

hope this helps mate

i was 18 when i got mine through MCD £600 ish tpft! that was a bike value of 2k, pillion cover, garaged and alarmed.

My latest isn't much difference but i have put the value up but there is no alarm.

19 brand new SV TPFT with 1 car bump was £750 just chained up outside with MCD. TPFT is pointless unless you have a garage or will leave it in a high risk area.
