Sometimes it doesn't matter how safe you ride, you just can't think for everybody on the road unfortunately :(. All I will say is never take a risk and not wear all your gear. It's saved me more than a few times. Good luck out there.

I'm a nearly as of this morning. A black cat ran out in front of me. Nowhere togo so hard brake, and pleased that (a) I managed to stay upright and (b) the cat lived and wasn't even hurt. But I was a bit jellified the rest of the ride in.

My ankle is still painful for walking, a bit less painful for driving, and absolutely fine for riding! Bike is all sorted out, just a few fairing scratches and stuff.

I've always worn a hi-vis vest for commuting, but never any other time. Now started wearing it when I'm getting myself around at night, but I don't suppose you'll find me wearing it on daytime fun rides, though!

I fell off in May and broke my ankle does that count? I also bloodied my shin mountain biking Sunday...it's a pretty shade of red and purple with an added bonus of poison ivy!!!

But seriously, watch out for the crazies and don't be one yourself!

Sometimes it doesn't matter how safe you ride, you just can't think for everybody on the road unfortunately .

This is very true, the guy who owns the riding school I learnt with came off at the weekend and he is a very safe rider.

He also arranges rideouts and unfortunately the person in front of him had target fixation and ended up in a hedge......the bike bounced back and cartwheeled straight into his chest, Result = 17 fractures to his ribs, two broken collar bones and a cracked vertabrae, he is still in intensive care aswell :( but stable.

I hope to never come off too severly, a little off is part of the learning curve in my opinion, I'm still awaiting mine=D>:(

He was pretty good considering, just bumps and scrapes, I think the hedge must of softened his fall considerably.

Shellywoozle
19-09-07, 11:39 AM
Fallen out with my arm ... 4 weeks today since I broke it so I figured 2 weeks to go then a bit of physio and Bobs ya uncle .... oh no.

Went for my X-ray today, sat there waiting for the doc to tell me I am healing up fine, after all the pain is a little less.

But he says can't see any sign of healing on the X-Ray although he says it must be healing a little else when he moved it I would be in more pain.

I have to go back in another 4 weeks :smt022, he can't rule out the possibility of an operation.

Grrrr more time sitting on my ass getting bored, lazy and fat..... I just wanna cry - Zuky will have to wait a bit longer for me to ride her now :(

Can anyone confirm?

Cause my shoulder was in plaster and I was in so much pain I couldnt move my upper body forward without using my left hand side and to push myself up. Try doing this on a sofa, getting out of bed or even off the loo, so my kind BOSS :smt082 bought me a walking stick so that i could get up, at least I had one arm to use it with LOL

Well I only went through the insurance on the first "off" because I thought the guy who pulled out on me whilst I was filtering was at fault so I thought I could claim the repair costs back from him ... apparently not though :( Police put me at blame for "filtering too fast" (live n learn ). So I now have a "at fault, costs not recovered", not to mention that my insurance company will have stumped up somewhere in the region of £3K (£2K on my bike, and probably best part of £1K on repairs required to the Audi A4 - I hope they thought to install some mirrors for him too ;))

Second "off" was only a few minor problems (gear change lever, indicators, clutch lever, etc.) and since no other car/person was involved I didn't inform my insurance company and took the cost myself.

I have no idea how the one claim will affect my insurance as I'm still in the first year of riding (and hence this is my first year of bike insurance). However renewal notice should be landing on my doorstep within the next few weeks, so I'll let ya know.

just found this thread..

I'm doing ok considering, broken arm, fractured hand, dislocated elbow, broken femur, 45 staples down my leg and a massive scar, damaged hamstring, bruised liver and slight internal bleeding. Having some trouble breathing, and keep coughing up air. Got out of hospital on thursday after 12 days and hobling about on crutches but cannot move far. got physio for god knows how long, but i am slowly healing and very lucky to be in the state that i'm in.

When you have them out, they will tell you it won't hurt, which for the most part is true(well its not too bad). However if you have them in muscle then that hurts like hell. I would of complained but during the extraction, the moderately attractive nurse, kept putting her breasts on my leg. :smt110

Dude, didn't see the original thread about your off. You are very lucky mate to still be here man. Heard about a similar accident a few years ago between a tractor and a biker (who was on the wrong side of the road on a blind bend). He is no longer with us unfortunately. Not saying you were on the wrong side of the road, just that farm machinery is not forgiving to the human body!

Hope you mend quickly!
