What do you prefer to prevent your visor misting when you stop at traffic lights etc.

erh I've got both, but I found the Foggy Respro mask really good in the situation you describe as it directs breath away from the visor so you dont fog it up.

I've got both, but find the breath guard on my FG-14 is rather large and makes me feel a little claustrophobic/visually distracted with it in.
I use Holts anti fog spray- seems to do a reasonable job when applied properly...
Breath guard because I have glasses!
Neither.
Bit of washing up liquid.
Pinlock doesn't seem to work on my Arai.

Visor insert all the way, but a quality Hyper-Optiks one, not the cheap crap off ebay that doesn't work.

It does when your travelling at a slow pace like you say, but on the motorway when its freezing cold you eyes water so you have to have it closed.
Then it mists up.
Hence why i use WUL. Cheap and does the job good :D

My helmet comes with a breath guard thingy (HJC HQ-1) that I'm going to try with the cooler weather.
You must breathe too much
Weirdest comment in the world? :smt046

What WUL?
Pinlock on my clear visor, and some HG or Wurth anti Fog spray on my tinted.
My Arai pinlock works a treat, so when it's dark and cold I never have to open my visor, pulled up or blastin along.

Shoei pinlock here.
Only time it ever stopped working properly was when I decided to crack it open and got rainwater on the inside of the visor!
WUL = Washing Up Liquid ... not tried that, but might ;-)

+1 except mine's Shoei. I have managed to mist it up once or twice but that was with vents closed, whisper kit fitted, freezing fog and stressing out trying to get the hang of U-turns!

Washing Up Liquid :D
Don't have that. Would a Finish dish washing tablet be any use?
 you could try i guess.
Word of warning with WUL.. Only use a very small amount. Put too much on and it takes bloody ages to wipe off again.

My Arai Pinlock works a treat so far, the guy in the shop said that they lose their effectiveness eventually, but you just give it a wash in warm soapy water & a quick (and gentle) blast with a hair dryer replenishes (**** choice of word I know but couldn't think of anything better!) it again.

i use a respro foggy mask on my KBC lid, worked ok, all except the very coldest morning!!
i recetly bought a HJC lid, and i'm impressed!! it has really good vents at the front, with a breath guard, the front vent , lets air through to the front of the breath guard so any misting stops and the two vents at the side circulate more air....completly mist free!
very impressed with the HJC. o need to spend out on foggy's or sprays.

Use Pinlock and the Breath Shield on my Shoei
Works pretty well, and as said, if it starts to play up, well its probably time to remove the pinlock and clean the inside of the visor as well

If you put it in a 100ml bottle with WUL written on the side (in silver capitals) and charged £5 for it, people'd queue up for it :)
I use a Fog City, I've tried Pinlocks and they work about as well (I like the Fog City light reactives though) I used to have a facemask in my HJC, which was ace, but I can't seem to get on with them in either of my Arais (Condor and Astro-R) I wear glasses, but they're coated against steaming up- not good enough by itself, so I just breathe out downwards or through my nose if they start to steam.

yeah i had a pair of shades on the weekend(yet to get a dark visor!), they only steamed up if i breathed heavily through my mouth, out and down through y anose is much better!

Fog City, which is of course the same principle as the Pinlock, both of which work well, but the place I get most of my stuff from sells Fog City, so that's what I've got.
Many thanks all.
I am strangely drawn to a breath guard despite the poll.
I'll let you know when it's appropriate to say "I told you so!"

Me too, FOG CITY insert and the FOGGY Respro, I wear glasses and the pair
together work great. ;)
Got to be the pinlock visor, ace:)

I have both, but the area round the outside of the pinlock still mists with the breath guard, so I've voted for insert! But then again, I commute almost entirely on motorway, so I only notice misting when I first set off.

Fog City didn't work for me, bought a brand new visor to fit it to as well, but the whole exercise was a waste of money.
I have also customised a helmet skirt so it slots invisibly between lid and lining which I use in winter. My crap lid (Caberg V2) blows air from the gap at the chin, straight up your visor and onto your brow, gives you an ice cream headache in cold weather. It is also very noisy without the skirt. Maybe that was a factor in the Fog City not working, but my lid is improved 100% by the helmet skirt so I'd rather have that.
Now I just lift my visor by the first notch as I drop below 30mph, it stays clear above that speed in any weather anyway.

I got my breath gaurd in properly today, what a wonderful thing.
My old lazer helmet had a sort of "double glazed" visor, with an inner sheild that didnt fog (presuming its a surface that attracts water heavily, forming a thin, clear film rather than just a fog of a normal visor). It was fantastic, until the adhesive went off and the inner shield came unstuck, letting it all fog up.

Shoei pinlock here never failed me yet
I had one of those breath mask things and a couple of times when I was setting it up it came unvelcro'd from inside the chin piece of the helmet and when you breathed it sucked onto your face and nose and started to suffocate you. I was terrified of having an accident and that happening. If there was no one at the scene or no one that noticed what had happened and you were unconscious then you could suffocate to death quite easily.
I also found that I would scratch the side of my face with the velcro on the cheek pieces at times as it is a universal fit and never fitted perfectly.
I have a Shoei now with the pinlock and it works just as well but with none of the other problems. I have a separate non-pinlock visor for the summer months too.
I ran a Fog City last year through the winter, and it served me well (except my glasses kept steaming up, so they'll probably get the WUL treatment this year).
From about mid-March I've been running a pinlock with clear and dark inserts, and thats probably the best thing I've used so far - as long as theres some airflow to keep the glasses clear, I could ride as long as I liked.
Anyone got any suggested retailers for stuff like this?

I was getting close to dumping mine because of that when I took my helment off. Finally worked out to put my fingers inside the chin bar and hold it in place. No problems since

I gave my breath guard another go again yesterday and it didn't bother me a bit. Works a treat as a combo with the anti fog spray. Lovely.

Cant remember what the TV programme is called but its the one with 2 old dears that help you sort your home out and they try and use stuff youve already got readily available around the house - anyhoo - they used shaving foam on the bathroom mirror and it completely stopped any steaming/fogging up!! I tried it with my bathroom mirrors and it worked a treat!! I'm gonna give it a go on my visor over the next few days - will post to let you know how effective it is..
Cheers

Is there a specific benefit of using the pinlock system over a stick on insert? I've been through 3 fog city/oxford inserts each lasting about 3 cleans before becoming next to useless.
Might give shaving foam and WUL a go!

Works very well, but you have got to pop it into your gob and suck it for a minute or two to activate it. :p

I'd say that the advantage that the pinlok system has is the little pins on the visor "push" the insert against the visor. The seal around the edge is then pushed snug against the visor, and if fitted correctly shouldn't allow anything in.
How were you cleaning you previous visors? Were you submerging them in warm water? I guess that would cause the inserts to lose stickyness. Personally I just wipe the outside of the visor, the inside stays pretty clean.
I simply hyperventilate before setting off, breathe in and hold it til I get to my destination. No need for these fancy gadgets!

The advantage is that Pinlocks are removable. I don't use mine during the summer. My dark visor also has pinlock posts so I can swap the insert between visors.
