this winter the xj that cuz owns is coming apart for cleaning and a few modifications, the xj aint worth much so this is kind of a play thing to keep him busy on the dark winter nights.

needs to be completely stripped and cleaned. all those bad bits of rust need cleaning off, then give the frame and rear swinger a good coat of hammerite or equivilent. then get the autosol to the engine, carbs and rearsets. then bobs your uncle, much better looking. if you wnt to rat it, get the matt black or green on the case!

Agreed - keep it original - although if he sells it will it make enough money to cover the Autosol bill... :-k

Considering it was bought as a winter hack, not only is cleaning it a bit of a waste of time....how good is it really going to look?....and why wait until the weather starts to turn to take it off the road?

Oh well, each to their own.

quite intruiged to see what it looks like now...

ps.) whats 'rat' stand for ???

I know. So am I. I want a free bike to play with and things now.

Oh yeah, rat (as I understand) doesnt stand for anything. For me a rat bike is a bike that has been put through a number of... say non standard operations to keep it on the road. It will also be black. And manky. And loud. Possibly emitting blue smoke when cold, utilising bailing wire, silicone and gaffer tape.

TBH I dont think kwak could really own a rat bike. It would be a contradiction in terms.

kwak zzr
10-11-07, 08:48 PM
its cuz's bike not mine and it is in quite good condition considering its age (1989) we was surprised when it started i'll tell you:) looks quite nice now looking back at how it did look when he got it.

16-11-07, 12:15 PM
it all depends on whats about i suppose im gonna have a look around this weekend Kwak i need to change my brake pads for the first time this weekend do they just come out when you take the clip out or do you have to unscrew them with the tiny nut at the end of the pin

That picture makes me want my XJ back. Tis a shame I had to ride it every day though, instead of spending some time stripping it down and making it look nice.

The inside of the front sprocket cover reminds me of when I took mine off; the entire thing was just caked in old skank with a sprocket and chain buried in the middle somewhere....
