I've got a curvy faired SV and have just picked up a front paddock stand (the type that lifts straight from the headstock) and it doesn't fit - it seems to foul the fairing around the lights and I just can't get the fella to work.

Has anyone else got this type of stand on a faired curvy that works? If so what have you got?

Did the stand come with some 'sleeves' to adjust the diameter of the bit that goes in the bottom yoke???

As a bodge you can use bits of tube, or even sockets ...

Maybe I'm being really dumb - but for the life of me I can't see how the arm with the "spike" that fits into the bottom yoke will clear the fairing around the headlight. I could see how it might work on a naked bike, but not on mine!

The sleeve aspect is fine, ie I have the correct diameter sleeve for the bottom yoke.

I just think I bought the wrong one! Back on ebay it goes....:(

It's a "Champion Equipment" fella, but I can't see a picture of its type on their website.

It's similar(ish) to this:

I don't think I'm being dumb - but it won't be the first time (or last)!

That is not the same as mine, but I know I have had problems between bikes and got round it by changing the diameter of the spike bit to take out 'slack' ... so your spike is a tight (ish) fit inside the bottom yoke hole???

spike fits fine, it's just that if I actually attempted to lift the bike with it I'd end up with no fairing around the lights anymore! I'm sure it'd be fine for a naked bike, so it'll have to go back on ebay I reckon.

How long is the spike? you don't have to push it ALL the way home for it to work/be safe ...

I will have another look at this tonight, but I'm pretty convinced this stand is only going to work on a naked machine.

So just clear this up for me, have you got a front stand that works with a fairded curvy? If so, which one is it?

This is the one I use on my SV ... I got it from A&R racing ... they may have changed supplier/spec since I got mine (~7yrs ago) but it looks the same :) I have used it on all sorts of bikes and as long as you fit the correct sleeve on the spike bit, it has always fitted ...

How in God's name do you get the bike up there?!

I just hold the stand at the top rail bit, lift the bike and let the bottom bit fall in place ... it's not hard if you are 'ard like me!!! :D

Seriously, with the correct technique, its easy enough.

Does it lift just like a paddock stand only with less leverage?

You can use it like that, but I could never get it to work securely ... I found the best was was the way I described ...

The good thing is once it is on there, it is going nowhere!!! 8)
