I got to be honest I hate seeing really dirty vehicles and don’t see the point in it

It only takes 30 - 40 minutes to get a real good clean finish if you keep on top of it. When it gets like that it’s a real nightmare.

I used to have a friend who thought he was impressing people by never washing his car and having the dirtiest car around, he found it entertaining and got a kick from it looking a state for some reason .........Then he tried to wash it and the dirt had eaten into his paint and other mechanical parts and generally made a real mess, the car needed various parts replacing and the paint and bodywork was engrained beyond repair and corroded in various places where it wouldn’t normally be, making the car worthless.

Not saying you have been like that at all, because my bike has looked like yours after riding 300 miles in the rain:( its certainly not a personal jibe, but it is a good reason not to let it get to bad in my eyes.

Sounds like the moral of the story is don't clean a really dirty car!

I don't see the point in people letting it get absolutely minging, but at the same time, obsessively cleaning never made any sense to me either. If you ride every day, all year round, it's completely impractical to clean the bike after every ride (and if you did, it'd negate the time saving of going by bike in the first place). I give mine a good thorough clean a couple of times a year (IE using autosol) and a couple more times a year I'll give it a quicker clean/wax. It looks alright most of the time and occassionally looks very clean or very dirty.

It's soul destroying to spend forever cleaning and polishing, only to have it looking like it rubbish again after a 300 mile ride in the rain.

Mine's a right minger.

I just don't see the point of keeping it squeaky clean.

i haven't got a bike to clean :( warning this thread may get very dirty.

My bike has dirty footpegs...

...everything else is alright though

I think dirt is ok, as long as the important bits are clean (where the clutch mechanism is near the front sprocket, clean chain and sprokects, forks, shocks, stuff that is always moving about like levers and stuff) because thhat way nothing will really brake. But i dont like to see a dirty chain, all dry and rusty and yuck.

Nothing wrong with a dirty bike, my CG used to get blathered in spray grease, anti-corrosion and -theft, as nobody would want to nick such a pile of cr#p.
Washed all the layers off after 9 months of never being washed and left out in the weather and the finish was just the same as when I got it.

OK, not as manky as mine once was, but this is certainly minging!

Last time i was out on the bike was about 6 weeks ago probably.
It was late evening and i just rolled it into the shed. Ever since then we've had crap weather or i just wasnt in the mood or too knackered.
I was rooting around for something and needed to go into the shed again.
OMFG! That's MOULD on the dead flies on the lens there. :smt104
Not to mention another shameful downpipe.

Hmm... I think most of the bikes here are shiny compared to mine. Mind you, most of you guys probably don't work on an unfinished business park - I reckon I've got a close approximation of concrete on my front downpipe with the mud and sand.

Heres:drink:to it being nice enough to take the chisel to it and make it all shiny again.
