Hey all
I've been watching this site for a while and am very interested in upgrading to an SV650 at some point. One thing keeps confusing me however... what do the K numbers mean?
Is it as obvious as the year the bike was registered, i.e 2003 SV650s K3 ?
Thank you! :smt102

You just answered your own question :)
I thought it was more to do with when the bike was made? You can still buy a brand new K6 now can't you?

Yes there are still bikes made in 2006 that didn't sell, even after sticking lowers on them and calling it the SV650Sport.

So in my example, the bike could have been made in 2001 but not registered until 2002?
K1 etc. refers to model, which usually roughly lines up with the actual year of manufacture, and hence registration.
So yes, you can end up with a K1, which is the 2001 "model year" being registered in 2002.
