View Full Version : Thinking of selling the Ducati
A few of you now know that I've been thinking of selling the Monster for a while now (dispite the wad I've spent on it....I still cringe!) as I can now afford the insurance on a Thunderace \\:D/
I've had a look at Biketrader and they offer a bike warranty @ £9.99. Has anyone had any experience of this and if there are any exceptions?. I'd hate to sell the bike and then for it to go bang 1 day later.......presumably, if it did, the new owner could use the Biketrader warranty to get it fixed??
Cheers,
Paul

From what i've read you have shelled out to get the bike back on the road, so it is currently mechanically sound. IMHO you should sell the bike in good conscience, with no warranty offered, as its a private sale.
I think all this business of chasing the previous owner for £'s if something goes wrong, is a bit bizarre. Private sales arn't really meant to offer a warranty....thats why bikes are more expensive from a dealer. If the buyer wants a warranty, then he should expect to pay a lot more! 'Sold as seen' is the way to go.
I've sold a few bikes and i've always tried to be completely honest in their description's. They(all 3 of them :) ) have all been 'sold as seen'....i would not offer a refund/pay for repairs if they broke down. Its up to the buyer to satisfy himself as to its condition.

True, but for the sake of a tenner and it may encourage buyers, then I would do it. Even if it's just to offer piece of mind, given the bike's history and recent work done.
Thanks for the comments guys. I aggree, a private sale should be "sold as seen" and imply no warranty whatsoever, however, when the bike blew up 40 miles after I'd bought it I did chase the previous owner and he paid for most of the repairs.....guess I was really lucky on that one.
I've just read the T&Cs, the biek needs to be less than 10 years old.......bug*er!!!
Slightly off topic but I have ridden a Thunderace - I guess you and your license dont get on ;) It only has a 5 speed box so the gears are quite long, but by eck dont it go! First time I rode one I never went over 6000rpm as I was too scared  when you do though, its a real warp drive machine!
Enjoy! :D
As skip says...they do go like stink once in the powerband...my neighbour has one and although it looks like a docile machine it really is a bit of a beast (so he says anyway)
Is the duke becoming too much for you then?

Yep! :D I test rode one just after I passed my test and it scared me a little, so I went for the Thundercat instead to build up some experience. Hmmmm, warp speed :smt050 . I've got a clean licence so far, let's see how long it lasts!

Nope, just time to move on. I bought the Duke as a bit of a stop-gap really, and I'm looking to do a few touring trips during the winter so I need a bike with a fairing and one that can cruise at speed comfortably. Must admit though, despite the cash it's cost me, the Duke has been a right giggle!
See a few bikes, don't buy the first one you see, try not to buy a duffer.
Again I'd say sold as seen is fine on this (though looks lik you've not got much choice on that front)
Jambo
With all the receipts you can show a potential buyer should be reassured that your bike has got over the worst of it ... hopefully! :D

i'm sure there must be an exclusion for Ducatis somewhere too... ;)
Be aware that most 'Aces use oil - apparently this is common so dont worry too much about it.

Ah, that's good to know. Mind you, they couldn't use more than the Duke.......0.5l of fully synthetic every 400 miles if the bike is thrashed....and that's normal according to the ducati website!!
