Benelli, Buell, Cagiva

What do you think of them? What reputation do they have?

Theres some fanstatic deals around on secondhand ones.

Any others (affordable) you can add to the list?

my mates got a buell xb12r, got it from dockgate20 in southampton had it for 2 years now with no problems other than the zorst silencer going rusty which buell replaced under warranty.

Woman I used to work with has a Buell XB12 (she used to have a SV650 pointy in black) and her fella has a Buell Ulysses. He reckons it is better than a BMW GS1200 he test rode. I'd like a Buell XB12, is that wrong?

Cagiva use suzuki engines don't they? well the raptors are certainly suzuki lumps as for build quality well not too bad but they do have a few niggly things that go wrong

It's the TL1000 engine in the raptors. Not sure about the electics though.

I think most of the electrics are suzuki parts as well, the switch gear is certainly suzuki

i was under the impression that they were suzuki designs but made in italy by italians using there own spec of metal meaning that whilst a raptor engine would fit in a tl it wouldnt last as long as proper suzuki tl engine. There is however a very large chance that i am wrong.

The engine in the raptor is definitely a proper suzuki one i think cagiva just put their own cases on it. as for the electrics a lot of stuff is interchangable between the TL and the Raptor

If you want something a bit different have a look at Moto Guzzi's

I did think about them when posting this, but I heard that the Breva isn't great, I'm not old enough for a Norge and don't like the looks of that sportsbike that they do.

Anybody know anything about the Benelli Tornados?

As for the V-raptor and raptor, ask dizzyblondes feller, he has the V raptor thou.

M4 cans which shake your head about if sat behind it, sounds ace but he has had some problems with it.

My friend has a Tornado TRE beautiful bike, but he's had loads of problems with it. Refuses to trade her in though, and will keep her for another year.
Try the benelli forum for more information- most of them are decent lads! http://www.benelliforum.com/forum/
P.s it's not a pillion bike!! :D

The build quality and reliability of the non Jap bikes is far superior than many would have you believe. Hanging on to tales from the past prevents many from exploring the motorcycling jems that are on offer from alternative factories.

Laverda, exquisite handling, shockingly bad reliability, average engine. Parts are really tricky to get hold of now they've gone under, but a lot of ancilliary switchgear from Ducati will fit. But really quite rare and always got admiring glances and interest. There's a broken one still hiding in my drive:

I had a raptor thou. Sold it earlier this year because of an ongoing running problem that no-one could fix properly. Apart from that it was probably the best bike I have ever ridden and ever will. It handled superbly and sounded gorgeous, but it just got to the point that I dreaded riding it in case it tried to kill me.

I believe Daimo's old man had a Benelli Tornado, before he replaced it with that MV piece of rubbish. Might be worth dropping him a PM.

What was it doing?

(seems some italian reliability rubbed off onto the jap bit...)

User error i reckon ;)

If I had the dosh I'd get myself an XB12X in a second. Especially now that they seem to have cured the main problem with it for the 2008 model: the older models have a turning circle of an average oil tanker... Great bikes though, but not if you have short legs ;)

If I really had too much money to spend the 1125R would be joining it in the garage

But I guess I'll just stick to the TDM and the SV for now...

Benelli Tornados with the 900cc unit are going for £5-6k now I think.

Now Benelli have been taken over by a Chinese firm, parts are becoming very easy to get. Used tobe very hard, and the very early bikes had issues, but the current range is superb.

my mate has one. its a suzuki tl1000s engine and electrics ( except the clocks) so yeah it should be fine, except trying to get cagiva specific parts as i hear people are still waiting 12+months for fairing bits etc....

its a brutal streetfighter style tl1000s, without the ****e suzuki rotary rear end. riding one myself and yes id give it a good 9/10

my local mv dealer tells me there will be all new raptors for next year, with new motors. he says they are due to be unveiled at the milan show later this year

with new motors.

Hopefully not too new, that bit of them really appeals to me
