Ah good to see you are alive Tony, sorry for losing you! We steadily lost people all the way home in true TVSF style! It was a truly excellent ride though, ASM you would have loved it. Except you didn't come cos you had the ghey and stayed in bed. Here are some of my photos:

Had an excellent day out! :-)

ASM- We found the elusive bike sim on the pier, they had everyting, horses, carts, cars, quads, stock cars! THE LOT!.. It's free on a sunday so we had a look this time. If i remember correctly we didnt take a walk down it last time cos it was 50p each! Don't worry we'll do a winter Brighton run when your knee is fixed.. :-)

Was a good'un!

Could have used another blue bike! Maybe we should only have blue bikes in the TVSF.. ASM - Better get down halfords for some paint cans mate!

In actual fact ASM we DID have a top box on the ride. Notice the 1200 bandit - he's with us, it's jons step dad.

I am allowed a tank bag as i brought the missiz, so needed space to store all her lady things (ehem, read my waterproof oversuit ;))

Nice to meet you all even if I did have to bug out early. Oh and the trying to lose people started as we pulled out of the pub. Myself and Knightrider were left behind and only my knowledge of the area enabled us to find you all again.... :D

Twas a good day. Must admit that I am soar all over from riding that crappy hornet. Was really missing my bike as it ****ed with rain on the commute into work today.

Will post the pictures I took tonight when I get home.

Me too. we got a few good uns.

Hope you get the SV back soon Jon, although the hornet was quick enough! i like the gold forks, they looked cool. it actually sounded pretty good in an IL4 kinda way when i was sat behind you (no innuendos please!). still wouldnt get one though cos i like me fairing.

We will have our own 'white boot only' rideout in the near future.

Nck- my bike is the best shade of all....black, although in this instance we will consider it a very dark blue.

Phil- 'lady-things' is such a loaded word....better to have said tampons in the first instance.

I can't help but notice that Jon seems to get lost more than me...i therefore pass the torch to him.

Also whats this about a hornet...i thought you had an SV loaner?

Finally, IL4 are the future...embrace the infinite!

You should note that I didn't get lost at all. I was patient and waited for my step-dad and Tony, unfortunately I never found Tony so I headed off and caught up with the others. I then ditched the afore mentioned step dad as he was far too slow and was cramping my style.

Also whats this about a hornet...i thought you had an SV loaner?

Had to give them the SV back. Unfortunately I realised half way throught the week that it had a slow puncture on the rear (present when they dropped it off to me) and they also had to service it. I was therefore given the hornet which felt like a 600cc bmx.
Finally, IL4 are the future...embrace the infinite!

The seat position is horrid but I must admit that I am starting to love the IL4 at high rpm so much power and such a quick/smooth response. Think I would wont something a tad more powerful though (750cc?) so that I could have a bit more torque lower down the rev range.

All this talk of low down torque, is really something that gets mooted too much. Yes its nice to have it, but on modern SS600's, its not like there is no pull at all. It takes no time at all to be in the powerband anyway and then you're gone.

From my experience of rding the SV it spoils you and rewards lazy gear changes. I reckon you probably wern't working the gear box as much as you should have been. An IL4 is a different beast to a twin.

I considered a 1000, but with that much more speed/power on tap, then i would be i serious danger of losing my license. The R6 is good for well over 100, which is more than i need.

I'm not 100% sure when i say this, but isn't the hornet engine a de-tuned CBR engine? Its obviously gonna have less punch then. The fact its not faired will also have an impact, especially at higher speeds.

The IL4 in the hornet is strange. I personally love keeping the bike in the powerband when filtering so that I can power through as soon as there is an oppertunity to go. The only thing that got me was that it felt like I was absolutely killing the bike throughout my journey (was reving at between 8k - 12k the whole journey) and I wouldn't want to do that to a bike I owned.

Ha, and now you know what its like to go unfaired! Admire my neck muscles!

A snap of the throttel from standstill and it goes anyway....no need to kill it. You can always slip the clutch if you really want.

On a commute i certainly wouldn't be sitting between 8-12k...seems unneccessary to me! It is a hire bike though...so thrashing is obligatory. :smt077

I do indeed. I reckon that after a week of riding the hornet I might actually get some muscle definition back.

Damn right it is a hire bike. I also like keeping the rpm up so that the whole county knows that I am coming their way.

Jon

PS - when filtering, is it rude to pull up next to those idiots cage drivers that hover around the centre line and point for them to move over. I figure that the more I do it the less grief that I and other riders will have when trying to filter in the future?

It will probably have the opposite effect....i would just keep out of it.

It's usual for people to get lost on TVSF rideouts, as ASM isn't here we have to elect others each time.. Normal business will resume.. :smt045

Bah....i still maintain that i rarely, if ever get lost. I challenge you all to name legitimate occasions!

Occasion 1: First TV rideout...i went the scenic way home, good roads and dropped in on a mate.(i say mate, he wasn't home so just his mum )

Occasion 2: Meet at Madejski stadium. I arrived in good time and was on the RIGHT side of the stadium. Unfortunately the Ape organised the others against me and they were all on the wrong/M4 side. Retarded the lot of them :p

Occasion 3: First meet at FS pub. Phil in the lead shoots off and i kept pace with him....everyone else fell behind

Occasion 4: Same day shortly after leaving the petrol station. Nick in the lead and and i was behind him. As discussed on the forecourt, we took a right turn in Henley, to find somewhere in the centre to eat. Jon carried on to Marlow! :smt120

Occasion 5: August trip to Brighton. Entirely Nicks fault as he mumbled about needing petrol, so i made the mistake of pulling into the forecourt next to the road we were on. Nick however decided he would get petrol in Brighton :shaking:

Thus in summary, you are all incompetents and i am infact entirely directionally competent.

That is all.

That is a lot of occasions to be a coincidence...

Meh...i like to think i can shift the blame elsewhere in each instance!

1:I was at the back as we left after a stop. Then a ridiculous procession of cars appeared so i couldn't get on the road. Theoretically i could blame Gary for not keeping me in his mirrors/marking the roundabout exit!
2:Obviously the ape is entirely to blame.
3:Whoever pulled out behind me on the way to the petrol station....come on own up....who was it?
4:Jon's to blame....obviously.
5:Once again...Nick's fault.

I rest my case. :)
