Just relax and remember your life-savers. Oh yeah and enjoy!

Take your time ... especially on the U-turn ... stop, then run through a perfect U-turn in your head ... tell yourself you can and will do it ... take a deep breath (EDIT: remember to breathe out and continue breathing!), life-saver, and go for it :)

Otherwise ... relax and enjoy ... try not to see it as a test ... try to look at it as "the first of many a safe journey" that you will make on your bike on the roads :)

Oh and smile :D it does wonders for the self-confidence ;-)

Good luck!

Pete

Triffic!!

I wish I'd never passed the test. All that money I've spent... I could be looking at thousands in the bank - bugger that!!!!

Well I think I can safely say getting my Bike License was a very very good idea!!

First proper run this morning from Carlisle to Dumfries (A75 for anyone that knows the area) - just took it easy seeing as it was freezing but so much better than in the car!!

Great innit?! :D

Every time the M6 snarls up over the Thirlwell Viaduct I have a big grin on my face as I filter (carefully!) between the lanes of cars/vans/trucks/coaches :D

And another exhilirating part of my ride is "making progress" down the A537 towards Macclesfield :D

Chillier mornings now I grant you, but do I give a stuff?! NO WAY! :D
Just love being on my bike :D

Best damn thing I ever did taking my test last year - just wish I'd done it sooner!

Aye, to be honest the cold didn't bother me as much as I'd thought - just need to get a good pair of winter gloves - my fingers were numb by the time I got to work!!

Only thing is I'm a bit reluctant to go for gloves that are 'just' warm - I bought as good a pair of everyday gloves as I could afford for their protection. Seems a bit contradictory to stick on a pair of non-protectives now just cos they're warm.

Are there any gloves out there that are warm & protective does anyone happen to know?

The biggest problem now is that I'm looking forward to hometime EVEN more than usual today!!!!

You might want to acquaint yourself with this thread:

And also the reviews section about Gloves:

Personally, I have a pair of Wolf Racing Winter Gloves, which are both warm & protective. They are thin enough to still have a reasonable feel, and they include knuckle protection. I've come off wearing these and there wasn't a mark on them! Only downside is that in heavy downpours they are definitely NOT waterproof - light showers and surface spray they will keep out for a while (kept my hands warm n dry on yesterdays rain soaked, 1 hr commute).

However, with winter approaching rapidly, I'm thinking about trying to get something warm, protective, AND waterproof.

Oh and as for the ride home ... that feeling never really goes away :) I'm always itching to get back on the bike for my commute home.

The worst part about passing your test is when you get back in a car :( and you realise you can't filter between the queueing traffic, that you have NO CHANCE of that overtake ... and "making good progress" means arriving at your destination without spending more than 5 minutes at less than 5mph!

Enjoy!

Pair of bar mits and some heated grips? Lets you keep your summer gloves for comfort.

First post... BTW I don't own an SV, but will. Oh yes... I will.

I like the idea of the heated grips actually - might have to look into them. Think the 1st investment will be a Double Bubble screen, the wind this morning was brutal! (Not sure how big a difference the screen will make but every little helps as someone once said!).

Probably be the grips & an AlphaDot after that... Dammit, MORE overtime required then!!!

Ah ... welcome to the world of motorcycle ownership ... you spend all your hard earned $$$$$$ on lessons (CBT + DAS), on a bike, and all the gear to get you started ... only to find that you now need to earn MORE $$$$$$$ because the bike and gear you bought are "inadequate" ... so now you want better gloves ... better boots ... a nicer lid ... cargo nets, tail-packs (or god-forbid, a bloody top-box!), a rucksack, tank bag, panniers, oversuits, undersuites, thermals, heated scrotum warmers, automatic nose-drip wipers, better suspension, heli bars, stubby indicators, smaller rear-ends, no wait ... all that will have to wait cuz I need new rubber ... ok, back to it ... braided hoses, lowers, belly pans, double-bubble screens, seat cowls, brighter bulbs, trick this/that/other ... no wait ... I need a service ... LMAO ... bloody marvellous innit ;-)

And we do this because ... "it's cheaper to run a bike than a car" ... I don't think so ;-)

Ok ... actually we do this because (a) we can, and (b) it's fun :D

Well done I passed mine last month as well.....err didn't pass first time but I got 1 minor in the end.

Yup I spent a ton on getting my licence, so thats all on the credit card still! I'm slowly replacing all my gear I got for learning in. The only good things left are the textile bottoms, and the gloves I'll keep the old lid as a spare.

You will also walk in a bike shop and spend far than you thought you would it will happen, you will see something and want it!

The zip on my boots broke last week, so I need new boots, winter gloves and a jackect.....oh my god I think I spent close to £1500 I think in total including das! I just counting and bough what was needed I need some bits for the bike screen, hugger, tail tidy....I really need to do some mad over time!

Gotta work 12 hours tonight I got a nasty cold given to me by a mate at work, dam it!

Congrats on the test blue!

Damn ... I just worked out how much it has cost (or I have spent) in 11 months of riding ... almost £8K :smt103

That's CBT + DAS (about £675)
Bike (£3K)
Gear/Accessories (£1.5K)
Servicing/Repair (just over £2K)
MOT/Tax/Ins. (£500)

Admittedly, I've had 2 "offs" which has contributed to some of those costs (e.g. needed a new lid and rucksack and had to pay insurance excess after 1st off and also paid for repairs myself from 2nd off)

I coulda bought a brand new gixer 750 for that  Mind you, I'd still have needed to get half that stuff anyway ... and insurance would have been more expensive :-P
