Re-wiring

I have set myself a job to do this winter - re-wire my 1958 James Captain...

Just wondering if anyone out there knows on any decent suppliers of cable and wire (apart from Maplins), in enough different colours so that I can do this job properly.
It's a 6v system, and at the moment earths through the frame, but I want to put negative cabling in, as I think this will be much more reliable.....
Was thinking about also installing some fuses and maybe changing the original rectifier for something slightly better.

... Am I mad? (Spanner Man - Keep out mate! We've had the Carbs debate already :rolleyes:) Any advice or thoughts out there?

I use generally use Wurth for cabling, the problem is they only do cable in long rolls. So you would have to buy enough to wire the beggar 10 times over.
I have grey/black, red, brown, & green in 1mm sq. & red, black, yellow, & blue in 1.5mm sq, how much do you need?
I would definitely go negative earth, & find a suitable modern regulator unit.

My father-in-law looked into this for his BSA C15 - but it turned out much easier and cheaper to just buy a loom already made. No idea if they make one for the James but it could be worth an ask...? I think he got his from Dragonfly Motorcycles in Bungay Suffolk. Apparently they know their stuff when it comes to old bikes...

I'm probably okay for the wire, but I agree about the rectifier. Want to fit a fuse block as well, but not too sure what rated fuses I will need for each part (lights, horn, generator, etc)

Cheers for that, I used them for the head bearings. I couldn't get a wiring loom for the James - problem with having a small make of bike. This way is more interesting anyway....

VWP- vehicle wiring products- are ace for random small quantity electrical parts IMO... Not as cheap as you might want but not as expensive as they could be either.
