View Full Version : Sudden Increase in throttle

Strange thing happened to me on the way to work this morning. While keeping at a constant speed the bike suddenly accelerated, adding between 5-10 mph to my speed.

Now I'm suspecting 2 things, throttle bodies need a good servicing and lube up. Or my carbs need a bit of balancing...

Though I would love to hear your views on the subject to see if I'm on the right path.

That's it mate, get a post time stamped up on the forum to aid your legal defence when prosecuted. Proactive, I like it ;)!

I'd be checking there's a reasonable slack in the throttle cables, and that they move smoothly, that the choke plungers weren't sticking and all linkages moved smoothly, and the carbs and air box are seated correctly if it happens again.
I'd sync the carbs while I was in there, but if pushed I'd admit that was because I've got a nice set of gauges and they're new and must be used whenever there's an opportunity.

All in all one cough on one ride can be fuel, leccy or mechanical. See if it does it again before delving any further.

Did you fill up with fuel today? Perhape the extra 2p/litre means you go quicker and you just got down to the new stuff?

I'll get me coat.......

Nah, if anything the tank was rather low... though the reserve didn't kick in for another 20 miles.
